ABSTRACT
Car jack is the basic equipment of every car. To replace the tires or to repair a specific
defect on the car it is necessary to have a car jack. A modern way of creating the complex
mechanical structures is described in this report, which allows for rapid change of
parameters and therefore of the whole design, i.e. the parameterized car jack model
was developed.
Additionally, this study aims to do a kinematic analysis of a car jack design. All design
parameters are correlated to one primary parameter when a parametric model is built. The
thread spindle's angle is selected as the primary parameter. Typically, one of the parameters
from the power input elements should be selected as the main parameter.
Because of the human hand force that is applied to the automobile jack handle, the
thread spindle's angle of rotation is the best for the main parameter.

I. INTRODUCTION
A car lift is a tool used to lift and maintain the height of a car. Typically, a threaded spindle or
hydraulic cylinder is used to generate the lifting force of automobile jacks. The automobile jack only
enables us to manually lift the vehicle to a predetermined height.
The most crucial factors in selecting the best auto jack are the lifting height and the maximum
load it can support. Additionally, steadiness of the car jack is a crucial factor, according to
experience. The structural design has a major impact on the automobile jack's stability.
FIGURE 1
Car jacks come in a variety of configurations and are often controlled manually. Car jacks that
use electric lifting power are available, of course, but they are significantly more expensive and not
available to all car owners. This study is being done to create a parameterized CAD model and to do
a kinematic analysis. The "Scissor" vehicle jack is currently the most often used automobile jack
(Figure 1.). For this automobile jack, a parametric model was created, and kinematic analysis was
carried out on it. Numerous studies on car jacks have been conducted.
II. DESIGN
A scissor jack derives its power from a straightforward understanding of gears. Two ends of
the jack move closer to one another as the screw part is twisted. The force being applied is increased
since the arms are being pushed up by the screw's gears.
The brace arms slide across and together with only a very slight amount of force required to
turn the crank handle. The arms rise up as this occurs.
Since the jack is not being applied force directly, the car's weight alone cannot stop the jack
from opening or the screw from rotating. Even though your weight only makes up a little portion of
the car's weight, if you applied direct pressure to the crank or leaned your weight against it, the
person would not be able to spin it.
Design of scissor car jack is done INVENTOR PRO and model assembly is shown in figures 1
and 2.

The material used to make this car jack is steel. Steel has a unique combination of properties that
make it an ideal building material. It include speed, safety, optimal cost, reliability, light weight and
design adaptability.
For quality and speed, Prefabrication techniques are used in factories to create the majority of steel
constructions. This guarantees the effectiveness of such structures and permits quick subsequent
installation.
Concrete and steel both have tremendous strengths. Steel structural assembly is very well defined
and under stringent control. Steel only falls short in comparisons in terms of flame resistance
because it weakens in hot environments. But this issue has been resolved. Refractory compounds
and substances that guard against corrosion, mould, and parasites cover modern steel constructions.
Steel is a flexible material that can sustain heavy loads by nature. Steel components may now be
made in a variety of sizes and shapes, ensuring great structural strength. Steel's adaptability enables
architects to realise daring ideas: provide internal space any spatial shape, alter a building while it is
being built, and effectively integrate utilities.
IV. DETAIL FOR EACH PART
• BASE : a base that rests on the surface and holds the jack steady,
• ARM : arms that rotate at points generating a 4-bar linkage
• RAIL : a threaded rod that pull the arms together
• SIDE BASE : a thrust bearing that allows the threaded rod to rotate under force
• UPPER BASE : components that attach the arm and cap together
• NUT : to provide a clamping force and prevent axial movement
• BOLT : to create joints between each parts and components
• CAP : top piece that connects to the car
V. WORKING PRINCIPLE
• OPERATION
A little crank that is put into one end of a scissor jack can be used to operate one by simply
turning it. Typically, this crank has a "Z" form.
The end of the screw, which is the object of force on the scissor jack, fits into a ring hole positioned
on the end of the screw. The jack is raised when this crank is turned because it causes the screw to
revolve. Like a gear mechanism, the screw functions. There are teeth (the screw thread), which
when turned cause the two arms to move and do work. The scissor jack can lift a car weighing many
thousand pounds just by rotating this screw thread.
• CONSTRUCTION
A scissor jack features two base ends (side base) and four main metal components (arm). The
corners of the four metal parts are each joined by a bolt, allowing the corners to swivel. This
assembly has a screw thread that passes through the corners and across it. The jack arms move
across the screw thread as it is spun, collapse or come together, and close to produce a straight line.
They raise and converge after turning around and heading back the other way. The four metal arms
constrict when they are opened, coming together in the centre to raise the jack. When the jack is
closed, the arms reopen and stretch apart, closing or flattening once more.
Scissor jacks use a straightforward screw mechanism to generate the lifting power, as opposed
to floor jacks, which employ a hydraulic pump. They are compact, light, and portable because of this.
VI. ASSEMBLY ANALYSIS
After , I have created parts for the scissor car jack . I have combined them in Inventor assembly file.
I started with base , lower left arm and lower right arm and created mate constraint between them.
The assembly is shown in figure A
FIGURE A
Then , I put the side base between both lower arm and created the mate constraint between each
hole. I put the rail and used the same command to created a join between both side base shown in
figure B.
FIGURE B
In mean time, I created the joint between lower and upper arm using the same constraint command.
Then both upper arm is joint with upper base to make the jack moveable. The upper base is joint
with cap. Shown in figure c
FIGURE C
Finally, created a mate constraint between each bolts ,nuts and arm hole just as shown in figure D

VII. CONCLUSION
• In this mini project , I have created scissor car jack parts and assemble them using inventor
pro and successfully created a scissor car jack. The design and analysis of the scissor car jack
is done with inventor pro software. The model of the traditional scissor car jack is modified
by using several additional parts and material that can withstand a much more heavy loads.
According to this car jack design , it is proved that this car jack can lift a small and medium
size of vehicle. It is also possible for it to lift a much more heavy vehicle if the design is more
efficient and ergonomic. However , there are certain weak point that can be improved such
as design , material and its parts. Overall , the performance of the jack is enhanced and
provide a great deal of future use. I am honoured to be part of this mini project as I get to
improved my skills using the inventor .
