1. If a health educator is simply considered as someone who educates others about health, who would be
considered humanity’s first health educators? Defend your answer.
I think the early civilizations of Egypt, Greece, and Rome since they put progress in preventing and treating
diseases. They recognized the necessity of maintaining healthy minds and bodies in humans. It also
includes the improvements of systems of rudimentary pharmacology, safer drinking water, and better waste
disposal. The Code of Hammurabi, named after the King of Babylon, was also taken into account because it
contains laws pertaining to health practices and physicians, as well as the first known fee schedule. These
laws are now being utilized as an underpinning by professionals to improve our health practices. Since we
have early health educators or contributors who give us ideas on how to improve, today's health education
professionals must foresee what can be and work towards making the vision a reality. They must always be
key players in the process.
2. Do you believe that health education/promotion is accepted as an academic subject at the present time?
Why or why not?
Definitely, yes! As a student who takes a health-related course, it is important that health education will
become one of academic subjects in any field of education.Nowadays, health is often taken for granted and
the value of it is not completely understood until it is lost. The promotion of health education will broaden our
knowledge with regards to our health and it will help us to strengthen our attitudes, beliefs, and practice skills
required to adopt and maintain healthy behaviors throughout our lives.
4. List 3 health education programs found in your locality and describe their effectiveness.

Violence Prevention – It is effective since it promotes awareness of the need for each individual to take
action to decrease violence. It seeks for, synthesizes, and disseminates evidence about what works to
decrease violence. Moreover, it offers guidance and support in developing evidence-based preventive and
response capability, as well as strengthening violence prevention.
Lecture about the Sexual Health – Learning to take responsibility of one's sexual health will have long-term
benefits that will only serve to help each individual cultivate healthier physical and mental wellness.
Mental and Emotional Health - It has an impact on how we think, feel, and act. It also influences how we deal
with stress, interact with people, and make good decisions.
5. Imagine that you are a health educator who has been invited by your Barangay Captain to deliver health
education program on malaria prevention in your community. What type of health education is this and who
do you think your target audience for this program?
Individuals who are in middle adolescence age 15 to 17 years old and adults age 18 years old and up
6. Below are health messages regarding TB; which message do you think is the most important? And Why?
1. - People with persistent coughing should visit the nearby health center for sputum tests because a cough
lasting for two weeks or more is a symptom that could be a sign of TB.
2. - Those people confirmed as TB patients and put on anti TB drugs should adhere to their medication to
prevent possible drug resistance and help to cure their disease.
Number 1. I will apply what I’ve learn on preventive approach to health. When we experience signs or
symptoms similar to this message on number one. It is needed to apply secondary prevention,
why? Because it is preferable to identify early signs before they become serious. Health problems like
tuberculosis can be cured if they are detected at an early stage. The goal is to stop the disease process, so
people who have persistent coughing should go for check-up and have a sputum test to determine whether
they have tuberculosis. If it is confirmed, the earlier the disease is diagnosed and treated, the better the
prognosis of the case and the prevention of occurrence of other secondary cases.
7. Go online and find a copy of the new Healthy People 2020 objectives. Read the introduction and
overview. Find the objectives for one of the topic areas and review them. Next, select one objective in that
topic area that you feel strongly about, and explain why you feel it will or will not be met by the year 2020.
What role might a health education specialist have in meeting the objective you selected?
I feel it will be met since we all know how essential it is to implement medical product safety when working in
various fields. Now that we are in the year 2022, it shows the progress made in medical product safety
during the year 2020, as it continues the effectiveness of overall patient treatment and appropriate use of
medical products. And the reason why the objectives were met is because of the role of health education
specialists, who truly focus on achieving their goal by reflecting strong scientific support for the safe use of
medical products and resolving any issues that may impede the success of implementing medical product
safety.

8. Interview several individuals who are at least sixty years old concerning the health care they received as
young children. Ask them to describe any health education/promotion they can remember. When was it?
Where did it take place? Who provided the education? Was it effective?
9. Suppose that you as health educator planned to create awareness among your community members on
the problem of cigarette smoking, write down some of the ways you can create awareness about cigarette
smoking and to help people to act positively for themselves.
Smoking is dangerous to your health. Get rid of any cigarettes and smoking-related items.
Do you live with another smoker? Request that they refrain from smoke near you, or even better, convince
them to quit.
When cravings strike, don't dwell on them. Cravings are temporary, so concentrate on the negative
consequences that cigarettes may have on you.
Instead of holding cigarettes, keep yourself busy by doing something with your hands such as drawing,
painting, or doodling.
Change any smoking-related behaviors as well. Instead of having a cigarette break, go for a walk or read a
book.
Avoid smoking-related places, persons, and situations. Spend time with nonsmokers or visit areas that do
not allow smoking, such as shops, cinemas, museums, and libraries.
Drink plenty of water, but keep alcoholic and caffeinated beverages to a minimum. They can make you want
to smoke.
Always keep in mind that smoking is detrimental for your health.
