Physical Education Unit Lesson plan 1st grade

Lesson Title: Parachute


Essential Question: How can I work cooperatively with other students using strategies for
success and showing respect for all teammates?
Enduring understanding: Students will gain experience working with new teammates,
respecting differences in physical abilities, and working together to solve problems.

Material: Parachute

Warm-up Activity HOOK/INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY: (approx.


10 mins)
Activity Name: Red light Green light
1. Students will line up in a row facing
forwards
2. Teacher will either say green light, red
light, or yellow light
3. When students hear the color they will
either run if it is green, walk if it yellow,
and stop when it red
4. Students will move from side to
another
5. The first person reach to the other
side first wins

Main Activity STUDENT AND TEACHER PROCEDURES:


(approx. 30 mins)
Set-Up: put parachute in the middle
Activity Procedures:
1. Have the students sit in a circle facing
the parachute
2. Each student will have one color to
hold on to
3. The students will then stand up while
holding their color
4. When teacher says a color the
students need to run from one color to
another
5. If students gets trap they have to do
run across the the circle and may join
again
6. After all the colors are called the last
torment will be the elimination
7. The last color who has the most wins

Closing Reflect (5mins)


1. Students will then sit in a circle
2. Instructor will ask students in what
they learn
3. Give round of applause to each other

Lesson Title: Junk food vs healthy food


Essential Question: Students will practice locomotor skills and identify healthy foods.
Enduring understanding: Students demonstrate competency in a variety of motor skills and
movement patterns.

Material:
Plastic fruits if not fruit shapes foams
Red bandanas

Warm-up Activity HOOK/INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY: (approx.


10 mins)
Activity Name: 4 corners
1. One students will be in the middle and
the other students around the
students
2. The instructor will give the instruction
of either running, hopping, galloping,
or sliding
3. The student in the middle will count till
30 seconds loudly
4. The rest of the students will do the
instruction given
5. When the student is done counting,
the rest of the student will either go to
corner 1, 2, 3 or 4
6. Whatever corner the students says,
they will either run, hop, gallop or slide
around the court while these rest does
a stretch
7. This game will have to rounds and the
third round will be the elimination

Main Activity STUDENT AND TEACHER PROCEDURES:


(approx. 30 mins)
Set-Up:
1. Give two students healthy snacks that
the class will share. (You can use
foam shapes or use rubber or plastic
fruits and vegetables)
2. The students who have these snacks
are “healthy snackers”.
3. Give red bandanas to four students
and name these students the “junk
food junkies”
Activity Procedures:
1. Students will line up in a straight line
facing forward to the otherside of the
court
2. Have the four students with red
bandanas line up in the middle of the
court separate
3. The 2 two students with healthy
snacks will join the games when the
other students have ran to the other
side
4. The instructor will give an instruction
of either walking, running, jumping,
hopping, or skipping
5. When the instructor say go, the
students will do the instruction
given and reach to the other side
while not getting tag
6. During this time, music will be
playing
7. When they get tagged the student
will have to freeze and the healthy
food will make them do a 10
second exercise one by one
8. While doing this, the game will still
continues
9. After three rounds, the junk food
will longer do the tagging but
instead join the rest of the
students
10. The two healthy food students will
become the tagger and tag as
much of the junk food students
11. This will be the elimination game
and last person to remain wins

Closing Reflect (5mins)


1. Have students put material in the
middle and have them sit down
together facing the instructor
2. Have them give each a praise like
“good job” or “ you did amazing” and a
high five
3. Talk to instructor of what they learn
today

Lesson Title: Frogs in the Pond


Essential Question: Why is it important to follow rules and directions? Why is it important to
know where you are in relation to other students and equipment?
Enduring understanding: Students will gain experience in jumping, landing and leaping
skills combined with pathways

Material:
40 hula-hoops in different colors,
30 poly spots
2-3 foam balls
Speaker

Warm-up Activity HOOK/INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY: (approx.


10 mins)
Activity Name: follow the leader
1. Students will be group into 4-5
depending on the amount of students
2. Each group will line up with their
group in one side of the court
3. The student in the front will be the
leader and will choose a warm up
exercise such as frog jump, jump on
two feet or leap jump and do this
exercise to reach the other side
4. When they reach to the other side of
the court the student in front will go
back in line and the person behind the
front leader will now be the front
leader and will choose another
exercise
5. This will go on until the the last person
become the front leader and finishes
the exercises
6. While doing the exercises the
instructor will play music and observe
the students in making sure they are
doing it correctly

Main Activity STUDENT AND TEACHER PROCEDURES:


(approx. 30 mins)
Set-Up
1. Students will start on one side of the
court and cross to the opposite side of
the court
2. The gym floor or basketball court
usually has boundary lines in place, or
they can be added with floor tape. The
lines represent a pathway for students
to travel on called “bridges” in this
game
3. The poly spots and hula-hoops are
scattered across the floor
Activity Procedures:
1. Students will cross the gym using
bridges only by walking without
touching the poly spots or hula-hoops
2. If out they have to do a 15 second
exercise and then proceed in the
game
3. Then students will cross the court by
jumping to one hula hop to another if
out follow step # 2
4. Then students will leap jump to one
poly spot to another to cross the court
5. After this instructor will choose four
frog trappers and will be scattered
around the court and will tag the frogs
crossing
6. Instructor will give the command to
the frogs of either running in the
bridge only, jumping one hula hoop to
another or leap jum one poly spot to
another
7. The frog trappers can not run to them
but move one side to another to get
tagged
8. If tagged, the frog becomes a frog
taper and can choose a spot to be at
and can now tag other frogs
9. After two rounds the games restarts
and becomes an elimination round
10. Last student to remain wins

Closing Reflect (5mins)


1. Have students pick up materials and
place them where they belong while
playing a song to determine how
much time they have to clean up
2. Have students sit in the middle and
give each other a praise and around
of applause
3. Have volunteers share what they like
about this game and what they didn't
like.

Lesson Title: Ultimate frisbee


Essential Question: What are the proper physical mechanics for catching a Frisbee?
How do the rules help or hinder the flow of play of Ultimate Frisbee?
Enduring understanding: Students practice throwing catching skills.

Material:
multiple frisbee
Cones

Warm-up Activity HOOK/INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY: (approx.


10 mins)
Activity Name: practice underhand and
overhand throw
1. Students will be pair with a partner
2. Parents will face each other in a cone
given and will have a frisbee to
practices
3. Students will alternate to overhand
them underhand frisbee
4. Each time they throw the frisbee to
each other, the partners will take one
step back
5. Will continue until students feel
comfortable to move one

Main Activity STUDENT AND TEACHER PROCEDURES:


(approx. 30 mins)
Set-Up:
1. Palace cone in where the touch down
will be for each team
2. Divide the classroom into two teams
3. Play rock paper scissor when the one
person from each team to determine
who will have the freebies

Activity Procedures:
1. Both teams will be scattered around
the court and define their touchdown
2. Team that has the freebie will
underhand or overhand the freebie to
their team however any one can take
the freebie by either catching it or
blocking it
3. I students will the freebies must stay
where they are and can either
overhand throw or underhand throw to
their team ‘
4. If person to reach to the their opposite
team cone wins a point
5. The team who reached till 10 points
win however if the game is taking
longer instructor may reduce the
points.

Closing Reflect (5mins)


1. Have the student give the freebies
and cones back and play a song to
determine how much time they have
to get a water break
2. Have the students sit in the middle
and give each other a praise and a
high five
3. Discus to teacher of what they like
about the game and what they didn't

30 frisbees
12-14 hula-hoops

Activity Name: story telling
1. Students will line up either in the
right or left side of the court
2. Instructor will be reading a short
story with 4-5 character and each
character will have an exercise to
do
3. The student will do the exercises
until the next character will called
4. When the instructor say “the end”
the students will be all done with
the exercis

Main Activity STUDENT AND TEACHER PROCEDURES:


(approx. 30 mins)
Set-Up:
1. Students are divided into 2 teams and
sent to their teams’ side
2. Each team starts with 6 hoops (pizza
crusts) on their side of the gym or
playing area
3. Frisbees and balls start on the
centerline in the gym

Activity Procedures:
1. When the game starts, students will
move to the middle of the gym to get
throwing items (ball and frisbees)
2. Then they have to throw their frisbee
or ball inside the hula hoop at least
3-4 feet away from the hoop
3. Each hoop must have at least of 5
frisbee or ball (topping)
4. If group to get all of the six hoops with
5 toppings win

Closing Reflect (5mins)


1. Have student clean up and
have a water break during the
duration of a song
2. Have student gather in a circle
and give a praise to each other
3. Asks volunteer to what they
learn in this lesson
