EMJ32004 Tutorial 4-Semester I-Session 2022-2023
1. The input to a sub-transmission system is 87,600 kWh annually. The peak load day of the
year, the peak is 25,000 kW and the energy input that day is 300,000 kWh. Find the load
factors for the year and for the peak load day.
2. There are six residential customers connected to a distribution transformer (DT) as shown
in Figure 2. Notice that the code in the customer account number, for example 4276. The
first figure, 4 stands for feeder F4, the second figure, 2 indicates the lateral number
connected to the F4 feeder, the third figure, 7 is for the DT on that lateral and finally the
last figure, 6 is for the house number connected to that DT. Assume that the connected load
is 9kW per house and that the demand factor and diversity factor for the group of six houses
is 0.65 and 1.1 respectively. Determine the diversified demand of the group of six houses
on the transformer DT427.
3. Assume that feeder 4 of question 2 has a system peak of 3000 kVA per phase and a copper
loss of 0.5% at the system peak. Determine the following:
a) The copper loss of the feeder in kW per phase
b) The total copper losses of the feeder in kW per three phase
5. Suppose that one of the transformer of a substation supplies four primary feeders. Among
the four feeders, the diversity factor is 1.25 for both real and reactive power. The 30-min
annual demands per feeder with their PFs at the time of annual peak load are:
a) Find the 30-min annual maximum demand on the substation transformer in kW and
in kVA
b) Find the LD in kW
c) Select a suitable substation transformer size if zero load growth is expected and
company policy permits much as 25% short time overloads on the transformer.
d) Now, assume that the substation load will be increased at a constant percentage rate
per year and will double in 10 years. If 7500/9375 kVA rated transformer is
installed, in how many years will be loaded to its fan on rating?
6. Assume that a 500 kVA load has a 60% power factor. It is desired to improve the power
factor to 95%. Using the power factor correction table and assume the capacitor steps are
available in 50 kVAR increments, determine:
