Job Title: Instrumentation and Controls Supervisor/ Installation,
Commissioning and Start-up
Essential Responsibilities:
 Perform troubleshooting of the control panel hardware (MarK VI & MarK VIe
Software), replacing faulty cards with spare ones, setting Berg jumpers and
downloading configuration software to the newly replaced cards.
 Install, configure and troubleshoot MarK VI & MarK VIe software components on
the HMI and other PC used in the control system.
 Download and troubleshoot control Software to the Control Panel.
 Calibrate and test any type of field instruments, according to P&I and instrument
list, using the necessary tools and filling the relevant check list/certificate.
 Execute loops check for any type of instruments

 Calibrate pressure-regulating valves.
 Edit the existing control software if required to rectify non-conformities,
implement sequence changes required from technical office, customize the control
system to the site conditions, modify the animated displays on the HMI, etc. Any
change shall be implemented upon approval by the competent technical office.
 Verify the correct implementation of control software as requested from control
specification document.
 Understand design and standard documents in their various formats: drawings,
specifications, ITN and other Internal Technical Normalization documents,
material lists (Bill of Materials), technical manuals for control systems and
specific components/sub-systems, NIC, TIL, procedures, etc.
 Ensure the correct installation, pre-commissioning and commissioning practices
are followed throughout the project, filling and/or requesting sub-contractors to fill
the relevant check lists
 Supervise the positioning and wiring of Control Panels such as Turbine Control
Panel (TCP), Auxiliary Panels of any type, Direct Current Panel (DCP), battery
charger and battery cells, Generator Control & Protection Panel (GCPP), Motor
Control Center (MCC), etc, done by Client or Sub-Contractor.
 Supervise LV cables laying, cables termination and connection and point to point
check done by Client or Sub-Contractor.
 Supervise the fabrication and installation of the field electrical and instrumental

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Actively involved in controls activities on site during Operation & Maintenance of Gas
turbines, Steam Turbines and HRSG with associated BOP’s including but not limited to
oversight of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnostics on gas turbine and
auxiliary systems

including planning, organizing, integrating and directing of resources such as tools and

 To operate the generating plant, including all auxiliary equipment in a safe,


professional manner, in accordance with industry standards, environmental
restrictions, original equipment manufacturers recommendation.

 To ensure the continuous operation of the generating plant, including all auxiliary
equipment in a manner which will achieve the optimum thermal efficiency,
without compromising safety, plant availability and reliability. Operate DCS controls
(BOP) and MARK VIe controls systems that are required to control all applicable
plant systems during normal plant operations, start-up, shut down and emergency
operations. Assist the Shift Personnel in the preparation of Permits to Work as
required. Assist in the start-up and commissioning of the power generating plant
equipment.

 Analyse plant operating problems and take necessary steps to restore plant to
normal operation or take recommended solutions to the Shift Personnel as
appropriate.
Report immediately to Shift Lead or his delegate whenever an accident occurs
involving serious injury to personnel and when a plant upset occurs which would
result in an extended loss of plant or equipment availability.

 Prepare daily reports on corrective and preventive maintenance in plant as


required by the Site manager

 Provides on the job training for Instrument and controls technicians and Field
Operators.

 Working Online with MarkVIe Component, for control, protection, and
monitoring of turbine and driven load equipment.
 Configuring, navigating and troubleshooting MarkVIe components (controllers,
I/O cards/ modules, network switches, field equipment and device failure using
alarm ID with the toolboxST application software tool.
 Troubleshooting and restoring sequence of operation failure.
 Valve calibration: configuring the valve circuits of both the servo control
Pack and the core analog.
 Combustion Inspection (CI) participation on GT-11 July 2014
Roles involved in during Combustion Inspection:
-Removal of spark plugs and flame detectors from their mounting adapters after
de-energising the power source and keeping them safe.
-Inspection and Corrective/Preventive maintenance of all Instruments,
Thermocouples, RTD’s, Vibration Sensors, Transmitters
(Pressure/Temperature), Pressure Switches, Level sensors and Gauge’s, all
instrument junction box was inspected for loose wiring and PM was carried out.
Roles after Combustion Inspection:
-Installing back the Flame Detectors and Spark plugs, performing functionality
test on the Flame detectors and Spark Plugs using the GE MKVIe ToolboxST
software.
-Stroking of IGV, Stop Ratio Valve, Gas Control Valve.
-Final verification of every instruments and device prior to GT-11 start-up.

Steam turbine and HRSG instruments, actuators and control valves examples
SIPOS 5 control valves and GREATOK control valve Commissioning and
troubleshooting.
 GE OC400 for DCS of HRSG and Steam Turbine Troubleshooting to restore
normal and smooth operation of the HRSG and STEAM Turbines
 Installation of Gas Turbine Magnetic pick-up sensor 77NH-1/2/3, calibrating the
clearance Gap of the sensors to the control device set point. Testing the sensor
when the unit cooldown was initiated, the shaft speed value was displaying ok.

the PLC software.
