Recommendations to Improve Court Services
From my observations, the courtroom and the offices of the prosecutors
and public attorneys should be more spacious. Every bit of space available has been utilized and the crowded conditions deprived officials and their subordinates of reasonable comfort for a healthful and efficient work. Therefore, I would like to recommend that those offices and courtrooms be bigger and more spacious.
Though a lot of programs are currently being implemented to eliminate
congestion of court dockets until now it is still a major concern. The unreasonable delays in criminal proceedings, particularly those involving serious matters, the untimely disclosure of evidence and the lack of robust case and case flow management by the judiciary is also a factor contributing to delays. The need for judges to improve case management, such as by imposing deadlines and challenging unnecessary adjournments may help with the delays. With the programs dealing to lessen congestion of court dockets i recommend for the following to be also taken into consideration to help with the delays. 1. The need to implement best practices in case management and case flow management by the judiciary to reduce the number of unnecessary appearances and adjournments that contribute to delays. 2. The need to implement best practices and better procedures with regard to trials as well as alternatives to or diversions. 3. The need to develop suitable technologies and make them available to modernize court procedures and infrastructure. Observations Noted During the Internship
The first thing I noticed when I entered the courtroom is that it
was small and congested. I imagined the courtroom to be bigger, but it was not. There is a divider between where the public sit with those involved with the legal proceedings. The opposing attorneys all sat at the same table and barely had room to lay out all their notes and papers. The space allocated for court visitors we're limited and there was not a lot of space to maneuver.
The offices of the prosecutors and public attorneys also lack
space and it's crowded. When interviewing witnesses and clients, there is a limit on how many persons can come in the others would have to wait outside until they are called.
The court visit provided me with an informative view of the
practices of judges and lawyers as well as their interactions with the public. The judges have different styles on how they conduct cases same also with the lawyers, they have different ways on how they present their cases and evidence. Despite the presence of conflicting parties, all legal professionals appeared keen and enthusiastic to work together and ensure that the work was carried out in the most effective way possible. In addition to giving me insight into the processes of the court, it also revealed some of the negative aspects of our legal system this includes the frequent delays in the processing of cases and the congestion of court dockets. Importance of Legal internship
Legal Internship provides an opportunity for students to
increase their knowledge of substantive areas of law and to gain exposure to a real work environment. The law students also gain valuable insights into the professional lives of attorneys and judges.
Legal internship is important as the students get to apply the
things they learned in class and with it they'll have a better understanding of the areas that they lack and needs improvements. The challenges they'll meet will enable them to assess their knowledge and to better themselves in their assigned tasks and duties.
Through legal internship the students get to follow procedure
in a legal setting, work on cases, do research and draft documents. It is through the internship that they will encounter the things taught to them regarding the provisions of the law, the legal principles and doctrines.
