All clocks synchronised, gyro and magnetic compared and errors ascertained, gyro repeaters including repeaters in
steering gear compartment and course recorder synchronised.
Course Recorder paper sufficient and marked with appropriate timings as required
Main engine telegraph, indicators and alarms tested. (Including RPM, ROT indicators and telegraph logger)
Before entering coastal water or congested waters, check communication between bridge and steering gear
Room (as per SOLAS Reg. 26-2), confirm rudder response to manual steering using single or both steering
power unit
Steering systems, indicators and alarms tested as per the ICS steering gear guidance on test routines and
checklists
Within 12 hours before departure from port, check and test steering gear, including as applicable the
operation of the following:
Steering gear, including manual, auto-pilot and NFU. Emergency changeover arrangements & rudder indicators tested/
checked as per SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 26. Testing to include all alarms - Overload alarm, Low oil level alarm,
Gyro failure alarm.

Radar and ARPA set up and performance checked Azimuth circles and binoculars ready] for use
Whistles tested from all control positions, where practical (including Gong & Bell )
Primary and secondary navigation light circuits (including Navigation Light Failure Alarm), Christmas tree lights,
daylight signaling lamp, search light, steering light and bridge console tested and ready for use.
Echo sounder, AIS, satellite navigator and any other Navigational Aids tested and ready for use. (including
Navigational Alarm Setting).
Echo Sounder Performance Verified. Monthly Performance of the echo sounder should be carried out by testing
on all ranges (as applicable) and scales to verify recordings against depths shown on the chart. Last tested

Anchor, cables and mooring winches ready for use or secured ([this needs to be separated as separate
items). Charts, nautical publications and plotting equipment ready for navigation (Largest scale chart
corrected and in use. Ensure all courses are marked as per passage plan, and all required markings are
on the chart/ECDIS and correct for the intended voyage)

Latest meteorological facsimile and navigational reports warnings for the area received. (Any immediate
concern of typhoon etc. in the close proximity. Any extra stability precautions to encounter bad weather)
Prevailing and forecasted weather noted and Master informed, if necessary. (Met manager to be updated
for the next voyage with correct route and speed)
VHF tested and switched on and standby on appropriate channels. GMDSS station logged in and pre-
departure test carried out.
All fixed and portable communication equipment such as walkie-talkie, P.A. system, etc for bridge to
engine and bridge to mooring stations are tested and in order. Notice given to duty engineer for use of
bow/stern thrusters as per Master's orders, if applicable.
Weather routeing, if provided, obtained and reported to Master and await Master's instructions for routeing
vessel's passage (the 2/0 shall be responsible for routeing the vessel to Master's requirements).
Note:
1. Make entry in Deck Log book "CL-N09 complied with and in order" after compliance.
