Dates and Time Quarter Fourth Quarter
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of the basic concepts of trigonometry.
B. Performance The learner is able to apply the concepts of trigonometric ratios to formulate and
Standard solve real-life problems with precision and accuracy.
C. Learning The learner illustrates the six trigonometric ratios: sine, cosine, tangent, secant,
Competencies cosecant, and cotangent. (M9GE-IVa-1)
Write the LC code At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
for each
a. illustrate the six trigonometric ratios: sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant,
and cotangent,
b. identify
the six trigonometric ratios from the given triangle, and
c. appreciate the importance of the trigonometric ratios in real life situations.
Content is what the lesson all about. It pertains to the subject matter the teacher aims to teach in the CG, the content can
be tackled in a week or two.
II. CONTENT THE SIX TRIGONOMETRIC RATIOS: SINE, COSINE, TANGENT,
SECANT, COSECANT, AND COTANGENT
III. LEARNING List the materials to be used in different days. Varied sources of materials sustain children’s interest in the lesson and
RESOURCES learning. Ensure that there is a mix of concrete and manipulative materials as well as paper-based materials. Hands-on
learning promotes concept development.

IV. PROCEDURES These steps should be across the week. Spread out the activities appropriately so that students will learn well. Always be guided by
demonstration of learning by the students which you can infer from formative assessment activities. Sustain learning systematically
by providing students with multiple ways to learn new things, practice their learning, question their learning processes, and draw
conclusion about what they leaned in relation to their life experiences and previous knowledge. Indicate the time allotment for each
step.

Very well said.

What are the special right triangle theorems 45⁰-45⁰-90⁰ Right Triangle Theorem and

first have a game. I will be showing you
jumbled words. All you have to do is to
form the correct word. You will write your
answers on the paper that I will be giving to
you. Each student will be given 5 sheets of
paper as there are also 5 items. In each item,
you are only given 5 seconds to write your
answer, and the first one to show or raise
the correct answer will be given the point. Yes ma'am.
Whoever got the highest point will be the
winner and will receive a reward. Did you
get it class? Yes ma'am

Those words have something to do with the

topic that we will be discussing today. What
do you think would be our topic for today
class?
This day we will discuss about the SIX
TRIGONOMETRIC RATIOS: SINE,
COSINE, TANGENT, SECANT, (Students will read the objectives)
COSECANT, AND COTANGENT.
Here are the objectives, please read. a. illustrate the six trigonometric ratios:

We will use the convention that angles are
symbolized by capital letters, while the side
opposite each angle will carry the same
letter, in lowercase.
In a right triangle, we always have the side
opposite the right angle, called the
Hypotenuse. It is the longest side of a right
triangle. In the illustration, what side is the Side c is the hypotenuse ma'am.
hypotenuse?
Yes, very good.
Now, considering angle A, the side opposite Side a, ma'am.
to it is called the opposite side. In the
illustration, which side is it?
Side b, ma'am.
Yes, and the other side of angle A is called
the adjacent side. Which one is it? The opposite side of angle B is side b and
the adjacent side is side a.
That is for angle A, how about for angle B?
Let us proceed to the six trigonometric
ratios.
Remember that we use ratios when we
measure ingredients in the Cookery class of
Motiong National High School isn’t it. We
see to it that the measurements are correct
so that we could have a perfect recipe.
In solving triangles given an angle ϴ and
the sides, we use the six trigonometric
ratios. The three primary trigonometric
ratios are the sine, cosine and tangent. In
solving these, we use the mnemonic SOH- Ma’am we have side a as our opposite and
CAH-TOA. c as the hypotenuse then,
a
Sin ϴ =
c
Opp
First is SOH, it stands for Sin ϴ = or
Hyp
we read it as Sine Theta is equal to opposite
over hypotenuse. Based on the given For the cosine ϴ ratio:
illustration, what is the ratio of Sin ϴ using b
Cos ϴ =
the opposite and the hypotenuse side of c
angle ϴ?
Very good.
In the Cosine ratio represented by For the tangent ϴ ratio:
Adj
mnemonic CAH, we have Cos ϴ = or b
Hyp Tan ϴ =
a
we read it as Cosine Theta is equal to
adjacent over hypotenuse. Now, what is the
ratio for Cosine ϴ?
The Tangent ratio represented by the
Opp
mnemonic TOA is Tan ϴ = or we read
Adj
it as Tangent Theta is equal to opposite over
adjacent. Based on the illustration, what is
the ratio for the Tangent of angle ϴ? Now,
the remaining three trigonometric ratios are
the Cosecant, Secant and Cotangent.
Hyp For the Cosecant ratio:
Csc ϴ =
Opp
c
Hyp Csc ϴ =
Sec ϴ = a
Adj For the Secant ratio:
Adj c
Cot ϴ = Sec ϴ =
Opp b
As you can see, these are the reciprocals of
the Sine, Cosine and Cotangent. Now, for
the Cosecant ϴ, what is the ratio? For the Cotangent ratio:

How about for the ratio of Secant ϴ?For the Cot ϴ = a

Cotangent ϴ, what is the ratio? b

Let us have an example.

Illustrative Example:
Given the measures of the sides and the
angle ϴ of this triangle, find the six
trigonometric ratios.
16 2
Let us find first the Sine ϴ. So, from the Sine ϴ = 24 or 3
Opp
mnemonic SOH, we have Sin ϴ = .
Hyp
now, substituting the values or measures of
the sides, what will be the Sine ϴ?
8 1
How about the Cosine ϴ? Cosine ϴ = or
24 3
For the Tangent ϴ? 16
Tangent ϴ = or 2
8
For the Cosecant ϴ?
24 3
How about the Secant ϴ? Cosecant ϴ = or
16 2
For the Cotangent ϴ?
24
Secant ϴ = or 3
Very good class 8
Do you now understand how to get the six 8 1
Cotangent ϴ = or
trigonometric ratios given a triangle? 16 2

That’s good to hear. Yes Maam.

concepts and practicing Let us have a group activity. I will group
new skills you into three, so count off from 1 to 3.

Now, go to your group. Each group will be

given an activity sheet, all you have to do is
to supply the missing parts. I will only give
you 3 minutes to finish the activity.
Afterwards, you have to choose a
representative from each group who will
present your answers at the front. Did you Yes, ma’am.

concepts and skills The six trigonometric ratios are important
in daily living which will help us to calculate the height
