How fast did you get it? Yes, the answer is technology, as it is our main topic for the
Second Quarter: Technology-Based Arts. Now, hold on tight and open your mind to

Technology-based Art
As the term suggests, it is an art produced using technology. Computers are the
primary means to create and manipulate this kind of art. Today, computer artists
use various kinds of program to create or edit pictures, generate videos, produce
music, or even send consciousness to people on certain issues in the society thru
posters.
Computer/Digital Arts
A. Origin and Early Stages
Computer art or digital art first came on the scene in the early 1960s. This was
because the development of technology was already available at that time.
People, like engineers and scientists experimented with the use of computers
and they started to see that they can actually create art using mathematical
and scientific principles. Thus, the first computer arts were made using
geometric forms and repeating patterns. See the examples below of
internationally famous artworks which started digital arts.

Lesson
What’s In
Did you have fun creating a computer art with the previous lesson? At this point,
you will be focusing on creating an artwork using one gadget only and that is your
mobile phone or smartphone.
Observe the two images below. Which artwork is generated by mobile phone? Which
is painted by hand?
http://gg.gg/mi4sb http://gg.gg/mjjuc
If your answer is the first one, then you are right! It is very clear that it is a picture
edited using an application in the smartphone. There is a blurry effect and a text
inserted as well. The second image is a real Northern Renaissance painting by Dutch
artist Johannes Vermeer entitled “Girl with a Pearl Earring”.

What’s New & What is It
The smartphone indeed has changed from a simple communication tool into a
creative device that can generate different kinds of artworks for different kinds of
purposes. These can include your personal photos or videos that you edit using many
kinds of applications.
This is not new to you, right? Because nowadays, people are already very active in
social media and you can see various mobile phone arts from their posts.
Below are some phone applications you can use for editing images.

Aren’t the images awesome? Any kind of picture can surely be enhanced using
various kinds of applications in your phone.
At this part, write down the new things you learned about the lesson by completing
the sentences below. Follow the format on a separate sheet of paper.
The world is really beautiful. Yes, it is even made more beautiful even when there is
a pandemic. Especially when there are people willing to help and become heroes, this
becomes easy to become a reality.
How about you? Were you able to do something for others in your own little way? Or
do you know someone who helped other people during this pandemic? Share it by
doing this activity.
Use or capture your own photos and edit them using any type of program available
in your phone. You may download any application mentioned earlier. Follow the
guidelines below and use the same criteria from the previous lesson for your
