    MATERIALS & INFO ABBREVIATIONS


    Yarn: Worsted or Aran Weight k = knit
    150 – 210 yards
    p = purl
    Gauge: 20 sts per 4”/10 cm rnd = round

    Needles: 6 US (4.0 mm) 16” circular k2tog = knit two stitches together
    7 US (4.5 mm) 16” circular p2tog = purl two stitches together
    7 US (4.5 mm) DPNs
    LH = left hand needle
    Notions: Darning needle
    sl = slip stitch purlwise

    wyb = with yarn in back

    kfb = knit into the front and back of st

    PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS
    Cast on (100, 108) using preferred cast on method and smaller needles.

    RIBBED BRIM
    Join to work in the round, careful not to twist, and place marker to indicate beginning of round.
    Ribbing Round: *k1,p1* repeat to end of round.
    Repeat ribbing instructions until ribbing measures 4’, 4.5” from cast on.

    MAIN SECTION
    Switch to larger needles for pattern sequence (9-stitch, 6-round repeat).

    S/M Only = on first round, knit in pattern to last 2 sts, p2tog (99 sts total)

    SLC (Slipped Right Cross) – Drop sl stitch off needle to front of work, k2, pick up dropped stitch
    with LH needle and knit it.
    SRC (Slipped Right Cross) – wyb sl next 2 sts, drop sl st off needle to front of work, sl same two
    sts back to LH needle, pick up dropped st and knit it, k2.

    On first round, place markers every 9 stitches, if desired.

    Rnd 1: *p, k3, p, k3, p* repeat until the end of round.

    Rnd 2: *p, sl1 wyb, k2, p, k2, sl1 wyb, p* repeat until the end of round.

    Rnd 3: repeat round 2

    Rnd 4: *p, SLC, p, SRC, p* repeat until the end of round.

    Rnd 5: Repeat round 1

    Rnd 6: Repeat round 1

    S/M Only = on last round, knit in pattern to last stitch, kfb (100 sts total)

    S/M: Repeat rounds 1-6 until hat measures a total of 10” from CO edge, ending with R6.

    PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS
    MAIN SECTION

    PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS
    CROWN DECREASE
    This is a quick-decrease crown shaping.

    When you are short of stitches to complete a full repeat at the end of the round (odd number sts),
    work the remaining stitches as knit stitches.

    Rnd 1: *k2, k2tog* repeat to end of round. (75, 81 sts remain)

    Rnd 2: *k1, k2tog* repeat to end of round. (50, 54 sts remain)

    Rnd 3: *k2tog* repeat to end of round. (25, 27 sts remain)

    Rnd 4: *k2tog* repeat to end of round. (13, 14 sts remain)

    Rnd 5: *k2tog* repeat to end of round. (7 sts remain)

    FINISHING
    Cut working yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the tail through the remaining stitches and pull the top
    closed tightly. Draw the working yarn through the top center of the hat and weave it in securely on
    the inside. Weave in any remaining ends and add a pom-pom, if desired.
