If the weather is good, our school is going to visit the History Museum next Tuesday, 12 October.
The bus will leave from the school at 8:00am. The museum closes at 4:00pm so we will be back
at about 5pm. The entrance to the museum is free for school students and teachers, but please
note that the cost of the trip is 30 Euros and this includes transport to and from the museum,
a guided tour and a light snack meal after the visit. If your child wants to take part in this trip,
please send the money to the headmaster by 8 October.

Text B:
The History Museum in the city centre re-opened in September after two years. Now all the
rooms are painted and decorated nicely. It has wonderful exhibitions which show the old and
the modern world. The ticket prices are on our website. If you want to make the museum more
beautiful, you can pay a little extra, and buy a ‘Friends of the Museum Ticket’ for 5 Euros. The
museum is an ideal place for families. Its restaurant offers snacks, sweets and drinks, and on
sunny days, there are also a lot of things to see from the terrace. You can take a guided tour
through the museum and listen to very interesting comments about the exhibits.

Text C:
Today my class visited the History Museum. It was very interesting to see all the new rooms and
I also enjoyed the guided tour very much. We were sitting around on the floor and the guide told
us lots of things about Greek and Roman art. In November we are going to do a history project
on this topic and I think I will use what I learned here. The cost of the trip was very low so I’m
so glad I went. I also bought a book in the museum shop. I wanted a bookmark too but the shop
is very expensive.

Task Three: Multiple-Choice Reading (15 minutes) – Questions 14-20

You will read Claudia’s blog.

• Read the following text.

• For each question (14-20) choose the correct answer: A, B or C.
• Place a X in the correct box (A-C) on your Answer Sheet.

My name is Claudia, and this is my second month in England and

now I’m very happy. I was looking forward to this year, but at
first I missed my classmates and teachers back at home. I was
very sad when my plane took off and I left Italy, but I have a
new friend who has just moved here from Spain. I started taking
English lessons and I enjoy them very much, so I decided to write
this blog in English.

It’s really exciting to live abroad on my own without my parents.

It’s going to be a great experience for me. I hope I will be able to
visit the famous places, and I also hope that a lot of my friends
will visit me. I live with two English students from my class, but
we all have our own rooms.

Let me tell you about the area where I’m living. London Borough
of Southwark is in south London. There are a lot of attractions
here, like the Globe Theatre, the Tate Modern gallery and Borough
Market. There is also a museum nearby. It is very close to the
station, which has a funny name: Elephant and Castle. Transport
is really good, it’s only 15 minutes to the city centre. The rent
here is quite cheap for a small flat compared to the prices in the
north. In South Kensington or Chelsea flats can be from £2000
to £2500. We pay £1500 a month, but a bigger place in this area
can be about £2000.

There are all kinds of good restaurants here including a Spanish

one, a Thai and a traditional British but I like a Chinese restaurant
called Silks the best.

There are lots of buses to the city centre and an underground

station – or tube, as they call it here; but there’s no train which
would be the fastest. For me the ideal way to travel is by bike
because that’s the cheapest!

They say that there are some good schools and shops here, as
well as a dentists’ surgery. I’m not sure about how the medical
system works here but I don’t really want to try it. In my next
post, I’m going to write about places to visit
