The majority of Jordan's water comes from non-renewable groundwater sources that are being depleted beyond their recharge rates. Much of Jordan's drinking water supplies are located over 100 km from major population centers, requiring large amounts of energy to transport the water over long distances and elevations through multiple pumping stations.
