Property Requirement Test Designation
Nominal Tensile Strength
Longitudinal min. 50 kN/m DIN EN ISO 10319
Transverse min. 50 kN/m DIN EN ISO 10319
Strain at 50 kN/m
Longitudinal max. 12% DIN EN ISO 10319
Transverse max. 12% DIN EN ISO 10319
Strength at 3% Strain
Longitudinal min. 12 kN/m DIN EN ISO 10319
Transverse min. 12 kN/m DIN EN ISO 10319
C. The dynamic fatigue efficiency is defined as the ratio between tensile strength
after 60.000 load cycles and the nominal tensile strength. The cyclic load shall
be between 15% and 30% of the nominal tensile strength.
2.2 NON-WOVEN
A. The non-woven shall be an ultra-light polypropylene.
B. The non-woven attached to the grid shall not act as a separator and should
allow a proper aggregate interlock between the asphalt layers.
D. The grid composite shall have an equivalent bond stiffness ceq,rf of minimum
9 N/mm/mm2, when tested in accordance with the procedures described in De
Bondt, A.H., Anti-Reflective Cracking Design of (Reinforced) Asphaltic
Overlays, PhD Thesis, University of Delft, The Netherlands, 1999.
G. The grid composite shall be supplied in rolls. Each roll shall have an
identification label with roll number and product type in accordance with DIN
EN 30320.

H. The material should have had satisfactory performance in at least 3 airfield
pavement overlay projects with medium to heavy aircraft traffic during the past
5 years. Certificate to satisfy this requirement shall be furnished by the supplier
for the final approval of the engineer.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EQUIPMENT
A. Mechanical pulling equipment shall be available to pull out the grid over the
surface in accordance with the supplier’s recommendations and approved by
the engineer.
B. Upon arrival to the site, rolls shall be checked for any damage. Damaged rolls
are not permitted to be used.
3.4 INSTALLATION
A. The reinforcement shall be installed as per the supplier’s installation guidelines.
B. No traffic shall be allowed on top of the installed grid other than the traffic
essential for placing asphalt overlays. Sharp turns, rapid changes in speed
and hard braking shall not be permitted. Supply trucks in front of the paver
shall be driven and not be pushed.
