    There are 5 senses; sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell.

    The pictures
    on the title page are of famous people who are, in different ways,
    connected with a particular sense.

    The composer, Ludwig Van Beethoven was deaf. The pop musician
    Stevie Wonder is blind. The label ‘Chanel’ (created by fashion designer
    Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, known as ‘Coco’ Chanel) also incorporates
    perfume products as well as clothes. Finally, Gordon Ramsay is a
    famous British chef.

    The picture sets illustrate examples of the senses in our everyday lives.

    Set 1. Issues connected with sight. Going to the opticians, different


    reasons for wearing glasses (driving, reading etc.), wearing sunglasses
    and contact lenses, other instruments to magnify images, binoculars,

    Set 2. Issues connected with hearing with specific reference to music


    and the dangers of high volume levels in noisy environments.

    Set 3. Issues connected with touch, different types of physical/bodily


    contact, feelings and emotions connected with them and the sense of
    touch from natural phenomena (wind, sun etc.). Finally, the issue of
    allergies where contact with different substances can cause health
    problems.

    Sets 4 & 5. Issues connected with smell (Set 4) and taste (Set 5),
    different pleasant/unpleasant smells and tastes, personal preferences.

    Set 6. Sensory loss - Speech/hearing and sight problems and ways of


    helping people with these disabilities; braille, hearing aids, sign
    language etc. What about the loss of feeling & touch, taste and smell?
