In a bid to help families in rural communities without
electricity, del Mundo invented a bamboo incubator in 1941.
In addition to all that, her passion for pediatrics and
medicine led her to establish the Children's Medical Center,
the first pediatric hospital in the Philippines. Truly, Dr. del
Mundo is a pioneer thinker, and an inspiration for Filipino
women.
An incubator is an apparatus used to maintain
environmental conditions suitable for newborn baby. It is

Abelardo Aguilar. In 1949, via soil samples he obtained
from his backyard, Dr. Aguilar stumbled upon the
bacteria that would lead to the discovery of erythromycin.
Erythromycin is an antibiotic used in treating infections
of the respiratory tract, Legionnaire’s disease, and
diphtheria, as well as urinary tract infections and sexually
transmitted diseases such as syphilis.
The Electric Jeepney (E-Jeepney)

Compared with traditional jeepney, E-jeepney is
more cost-effective; has 87% lower greenhouse gas
(GHG) emissions; does not produce smog; reduces air
pollution and its associated health effects; and is more
preferred by the majority of the riding public due to
its safety, environment-friendly, and comfortable
ride.
The E-jeepney is a recent development of the earlier

jeepney in the Philippines that provides a sustainable,
clean form of public transportation. The very first
jeepneys were developed and pioneered by Leonardo
S. Sarao. His developments gavr rise to modern
designs.

In contrast with jeeoneys powered by fuel, this

version is comprised of battery-driven operations.
The E-Jeepney's batteries recharge using power
from biodegradable waste.
SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE LIGHTING
(SALt) LAMP
“To light up the rest of the Philippines
sustainably” was the vision of Filipina
scientist Aisa Mijeno when she made the
Sustainable Alternative Lighting (SALt)
lamp.
The SALt Lamp is an environment-friendly and sustainable
alternative light source that runs on saltwater, making it
suitable to those who live in coastal areas.
It can also function well in remote barrios.
With just two table spoons of salt and one glass of tap water,
this ecologically designed lamp can run for eight hours.

KARAOKE
Roberto del Rosario invented his version of a
karaoke machine, the Sing Along System, a type of
karaoke system between 1975 and 1977, and in his
patents (UM-5269 on June 2, 1983 and UM-6237
on November 14, 1986) he described his sing-along
system as a handy, multi-purpose, compact machine
that incorporates an amplifier speaker, one or two
tape mechanisms, an optional tuner or radio, and a
microphone mixer with features to enhance one's
voice, such as the echo or reverb to simulate an opera
hall or a studio sound. The whole system was
enclosed in one cabinet casing.
The Sing Along System is basically a machine with a screen that

plays a backing track and displays the lyrics of a song for a
person to sing along to. The words are timed with music which
allows a person to follow along and sing one's favorite songs

Meconium Drug Test
Dr. Enrique M. Ostrea
Dr. Ostrea Jr. developed a meconium drug test which has been
proven as one of the most sensitive tests to detect the presence of
illegal substances in newborns. This test reveals exposure to drugs,
tobacco, smoke, alcohol and other environmental toxicants. Known
as the Meconium Test Kit, this invention is famously used
worldwide by physicians throughout the medical fraternity. It plays
a major role in helping doctors treat newborns accordingly to
prolong and save lives.

16 - BIT MICROCHIPS
This invention has allowed computer users to use graphics for

commands and not the usual typed commands in older
computers. It has allowed data processing to be a little faster
using very little space (small chips instead of large boards).
They are now found in computers, guided missiles, “smart”
bombs, satellites for communications or scientific exploration,
hand-held communications devices, televisions, aircraft,
DIOSDADO BANATAO spacecraft, and motor vehicles.

comfortable and cost-effectibe which are among its key
features. It is actuated using high power brushless DC
motors attached to an adjustable and lightweight frame.
Videophone

VIDEOPHONE also known as two-way television-telephone, which
was invented by Gregorio Zara (March 8, 1902–October 15,
1978) he is a National Scientist Gregorio Y. Zara, a
physicist, and the one who invented a device that makes it
possible for two persons to see each other on a television
while talking on the telephone as early as 1954, long before
the digital age began. When Zara patented it in 1955 as a
"photo phone signal separation network," it moved beyond
science fiction and comic books. Zara's videophone was never
intended to be a commercial product in the first place. It is
a device that easily enabled distance learning and video
conferencing and also proved helpful for the hearing
impaired. In 2002, videophone services developed for the Deaf
population. It is a telephone with a video camera and video
display, capable of simultaneous video and audio
communication.

effective Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
