PROJECT TITLE eHampang: Harnessing Mastery through Play-based Approach in LearniNG AP

PROJECT PROPONENT/S: MAHINAY, RAE JEAN A.

MOLENO, ERIKA D.

MONTE-ALTO, MARY ROSE R.

Brief Description of the project

This classroom-based action research aims to find out the effectiveness of using the play-based approach in harnessing mastery of

learning Araling Panlipunan. The play-based approach provides opportunities for students to actively and imaginatively engage with

people, objects, and the environment. This project includes different games that will pique the curiosity of the students to learn and dis-

cover new learnings in Araling Panlipunan. Through this, it will help them to be interested and driven to learn and master new lessons

that will be taught to them.

This project is keen on the problem of low engagement of students in Araling Panlipunan discussions where they find it boring and

challenging because they viewed the subject as more about familiarization of dates and memorization of factual events. This eHampang

project is an alternative way and practices to improve students’ engagement by giving them activities that will increase their interest in

learning.

Significance of the project to the Students tend to define Araling Panlipunan as a boring and difficult subject to learn. The problem of students’ engagement in discus-

research priorities of the University sions arises. Some students divert their attention to other things instead of participating in discussions

In that case, the researchers want to study the effect of a play-based approach, an activity that the researchers crafted that will focus on

providing ways and games to encourage students’ participation in the Araling Panlipunan discussion. This research study aims to focus

on and examine the effect of a play-based approach on students’ participation after implementation. This study contributes to the fol-

lowing stakeholders who will benefit from it: schools, teachers, parents, students, and future researchers.

Statement of Purpose/Objectives This study sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the effect of using play-based approach in students’ learning in Araling Panlipunan?

2. Is there a significant relationship between students’ engagement before and after the implementation of the Play-based

Approach in harnessing mastery in learning Araling Panlipunan?

practices in encouraging students to participate and engage in classes because their learning matters. The researcher will be based on

U MATTER in limited face to face class (Controlled
variable), and at the end, the researcher will conduct a survey to assess student’s engagement (After- Dependent variable).

Methodology The Correlational type of research will be used in this study to determine the changes of independent variable to dependent variable
due to the controlled variable. This design will be utilized by the researchers to find out the relationship of using the U MATTER, a
project crafted by the researchers to students’ engagement in limited face to face classes.
The researchers will adapt a questionnaire to measure the participation of the students before and after the implementation of the U
MATTER. The scores will be analyzed using the descriptive statistics and paired T-test if there is a significant relationship between the
two variables.
The study will be conducted in Grade 10-Basil of Sagay City Eco-Zone Farm School, Fourth Quarter S.Y. 2021-2022.

The following are the procedures to conduct the study:

1. Gather Students’ Personal Profile through google forms
2. Assessing student engagement using google forms.
3. Implementation of the U MATTER project.
4. Evaluation of student engagement using google forms.
5. Data analysis

Ethical Considerations The researchers will conduct their research study and gather the data needed in the research from Grade 10-Basil of Sagay City Eco-

Zone Farm School. The respondents consist of 37 enrolled students in the Fourth Quarter of the Academic Year 2020-2021 under Ju-
Types of participants
nior High School.

Risk/s to participants and There will be no risks to participants and researchers for the entire research process. Since the gathering of data will be administered
researchers face to face, proper health protocols were observed.
Benefits to the This research study will reveal the influence on the students’ engagement in utilizing the U MATTER project to their limited face to
participants or face learning, in that case, participants, and other stakeholders will be informed on the effectiveness and efficiency of the U MATTER
community project. The results of this study will be used as inputs to the improvement of the teaching and learning process.

Confidentiality and A consent will be first sought by the principal, adviser, and Grade 10-Basil students who are attending the limited face to face classes.
handling of data The researchers will state clearly and carefully the consent and instructions to the respondents. Participants will be informed of the

confidentiality and anonymity of the gathered information and it will only be accessed by the researchers and research adviser. After

gathering all the information, all study questionnaires and related documents were safely kept.
