Case Study – Chapter – 3:

Question 1: What theories and/or studies could be applied here to better understand what

is motivating employees at Listo Systems?

Ans: Listo system has grown very fast. One of the main reasons behind their fast growth rate

was their motivation towards their employee. They were very successful when it came to

motivate their employees. Their employees worked hard and were dedicated to achieve the goal

for the company. Listo system also accepts employee’s opinion which lets the employee to be

mindful when working. They felt empowered as the company was ready to listen to their

thoughts anytime. It relates to Herzberg’s motivation hygiene theory. Herzberg’s theory was

based on two parts. One was Hygiene factors and another was Motivation factors. Hygiene

factors are basically the factors that usually dissatisfy the employees which leads to

demotivation. Whereas, motivation factors are the factors which allows the employee to be

motivated. It is seen in the policy of Listo Systems that the company uses the motivation which

is why employees are hardworking and more dedicated towards their goal so that they can

achieve it. It continues to motivate them towards their goals.

Case Study – Chapter – 4:

Question 1: Using the above scenario, consider Organizational Level 1: Key Players

(Stakeholders) and Business Ideas (Purpose). Which Leadership Challenge response is

most appropriate: Establishing, Refining, or Monitoring? Using the theories discussed in

Chapters 1-4, explain why you chose that response.

Ans: The most appropriate leadership challenge response is “Establishing”. Stakeholders of

Listo System has implied expressions of vision and aim that are adequate and realistic. But as

they are doing, they are also shifting from the original plan due to their bad choices in the new

management system. They have added a new management layer and recruited employee with a

bad timing that the new joiners can not keep up with the experienced ones. Thus, creating a brick

wall in front of the company’s progress. Even if they are displaying rapid business growth, they

must return to the drawing board to determine just how necessary these new middle management

positions are, and if necessary, they must properly place and train these individuals in those

positions where they can be most effective and consistent with the stakeholder's vision and

mission statement standards.

Question 2: Using the above scenario, consider Organizational Level 2: Entity (Culture)

and Strategy (Mission). Which Leadership Challenge response is most appropriate:

Defining, Shaping, or Publicizing? Using the theories discussed in Chapters 1-4, explain

why you chose that response.

Ans: “Shaping” is the most appropriate response for this leadership challenge. Listo System have

faced a sudden change in the management system. This has eventually led to different negative

impacts. The main issue that Listo System has faced that the negative replies of the employees.

Employees went totally against of the new management system. Listo changed the management

system because of the expansion. Instead, Listo ought to restructure its administration to promote

employee participation.

Question 3: Using the above scenario, consider Organizational Level 3: Departments

(Units) and Key Results (Success Factors). Which Leadership Challenge response is most

appropriate: Involving, Facilitating, or Communicating? Using the theories discussed in

Chapters 1-4, explain why you chose that response.

Ans: “Communicating” is the most appropriate leadership challenge for the above scenario. In

order for the company to create goals and form teams to accomplish those goals, the new key

results and success criteria needed to be conveyed to the workforce. The personnel started

changing their behavior as a result of having no objectives or motivation.

Question 4: Using the above scenario, consider Organizational Level 4: Teams (Groups)

and Goals (Objectives). Which Leadership Challenge response is most appropriate:

Focusing, Unifying, or Connecting? Using the theories discussed in Chapters 1-4, explain

why you chose that response.

Ans: “Focusing” is the most appropriate leadership challenge for the above scenario. Listo lost

their focus from their vision statement. New manager were hired under the new management

system, but they were not given the training that was required for running the company. As the

new manager and new employees were hard without proper training their new visions and ideas

also got involved. Former executives encouraged employee participation and enabled workers to

take on more responsibility and show more commitment to the attainment of the organization's

goals.

Question 5: Using the above scenario, consider Organizational Level 5: Individuals

(People) and Tasks (Jobs). Which Leadership Challenge response is most appropriate:

Enabling, Engaging, or Empowering? Using the theories discussed in Chapters 1-4, explain

why you chose that response.

Ans: “Empowering” is the most appropriate leadership challenge for the above scenario. For the

recent changes in the management Listo seem to have lost the strong leaders. Because of the lack

of strong leaders’ employees were not properly directed which resulted in a lesser production.

Employees should exhibit different behaviors as a result of being given more responsibility for

their work, pride in their employment, and a good attitude toward their employer.
