WHAT IS THE USE OF CODE OF ETHICS IN

OUR PROFESSIONS AS CIVIL ENGINEER


To put it simply, engineers live by a code of

ethics. A company's or organization's code

of ethics serves the same purpose as a

declaration of values. In this instance, it

lays forth the fundamental guidelines that

engineers follow to protect and maintain

safe working environments for both

engineers and the general public.

Act to Regulate the Practice of Civil Engineering in the

Philippines

Within the meaning and purpose of this Act, the practice of civil

engineering includes consultation, design, preparation of plans,

specifications, estimates, erection, installation, and supervision of the

construction of streets, bridges, highways, railroads, airports and

hangars, port works, canals, river and shore improvements,

lighthouses, and dry docks; buildings, fixed structures for irrigation,

flood protection, drainage, and water supply; and other types of fixed

structures. Any work not specifically mentioned in this section that


calls for civil engineering knowledge and application is nonetheless

considered to be included.

The professional service of practicing civil engineering requires

admittance based on unique, personal credentials. Therefore, no firm,

partnership, corporation, or association may be registered or licensed

as such for the practice of civil engineering: Provided, however, That

persons properly registered and licensed as civil engineers may form,

and obtain registration of, a firm, partnership, or association using the

term "Engineers" or "Engineers and Architects," among themselves or

with a person or persons properly registered and licensed as architects;

however, nobody shall be a member or shareholder in such a firm,

partnership, or association.

AN ACT CREATING THE PHILIPPINE LICENSING BOARD FOR CONTRACTORS, PRESCRIBING ITS POWERS, DUTIES AND

Members of the Board. A "Philippine Licensing Board for Contractors" under the office of the Board of Examiners is hereby

established to carry out the objectives of this Act. The Board will be referred to as the Board in the following paragraphs. It

approval of the Commission on Appointments.
