Natural resources in North America

North America benefits greatly from its fertile soils,


plentiful freshwater, oil and mineral deposits, and forests.
With a strong domestic and export economy focused on
this abundant array of natural resources, North America
has become one of the most developed regions in the
world.

Soil

• The area in the North cannot


grow because the soil is mostly in
the frozen stage.
• Around Hudson bay in the south
• Area around Great Plains,
around Great Lakes, Saints
Laurence and Mississippi area
are good quality to growing corn
and soy beans.
• The west coast area of Canada
has fertile soil and is an important
agricultural area of North
America.

Forest and wildlife

• Forestry and Wildlife in Canada and the United States are available in abundance.
Deforestation and hunting is minimal because of reinforce laws strictly.
• The largest area of forest is in Canada and Alaska of the USA which most tree are in
pine tree family.
• However, a lot of these forests were cut to clear the land for growing economic crops
in South Mexico, central America and Wes indies archipelago.

Wildlife
• North America has a diverse array of wildlife species and is home to an
estimated 457 mammals (e.g. bison, raccoon, mountain lion, beaver,
moose, and jaguar), 914 birds (e.g. Bald Eagle and Goose) 662 reptiles
(e.g. alligator) more than 300 amphibians and 4,000 known arachnids
(e.g. bark scorpion).

to North America.

• Important minerals in North America such as coal, iron and
steel, Oil and natural gas, copper, lead,Zinc phosphate, gold,
nickel silver, etc.
• North America has abundant minerals which is an important
factor in the development of the region quickly.

• Major freshwater sources of North America, such as the Mississippi
River, Missouri River, Saint-Lawrence River, Colorado River, Rio
Grande River, Great Lakes, etc.
• The Mississippi River is the longest river in North America. Born
from a mountain in the United States near the Canadian border and
flows into the Gulf of Mexico. There are many river branches flowing
together.
• Other important water sources, such as the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic
Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea etc.

Niagara Falls consists of two waterfalls on the
Niagara River, which marks the border
between New York and Ontario, Canada: the
American Falls, located on the American side
of the border, and the Canadian or
Horseshoe Falls located on the Canadian
