Name: John Robert Segurigan Section: C2

Course: GED109 – Gender and Society

1.

1.1. The main character’s name is Sabrina “Bree” Osbourne and is also known

as Stanley Schupak.

1.2. She is 57 years old

1.3. Born as a man, she eventually underwent a surgery to become a

transwoman.

1.4. A single parent for her son

1.5. Initially pretended to be a Christian missionary, she found a job as a busser

and was promoted as a waitress.

2. Bree acted as both a mother and a father to her son in order to support him.

She mostly portrayed herself a as a woman throughout the film. She went with

the flow of society in order to avoid confrontation. She, at the very least, tried to

be a father to her son in little ways she can do.

3. Bree’s psychiatrist insisted that she must tie all loose ends to her previous life

before moving on to her new life as a transwoman. In order to make sure she
didn’t leave any regrets, she was given the task to face her son and solve their

problems together.

4. Naturally, discovering that you have a previously unknown son shocked Bree

and did not entirely believe it at first. However, it did not have much of an impact

to Bree’s decision to go through the surgery.

5. Toby led a rough and dangerous life. Since his biological mother died due to

suicide, he lived on the streets and became hardened. Gender issues came

about his life when his stepfather began to sexually abuse him. As it turns out,

his stepfather is actually a closeted gay.

6. Bree’s family were greatly shocked and appalled when she announced that

she’ll be getting a major surgery to tun into a woman. Contrary to their parents’

reaction, Bree’s sister was very welcoming of the idea of her sibling turning into a

woman. But unfortunately, her decision still stands.

7. As the ages progress, more and more people get enlightened and discover

more about their selves. And with that, society and those in power should slowly

adjust their views on such topics so that proper order should be gained. In this

country, there have been various instances where certain individuals undergo
gender reassignment surgeries in and out of the country in order for them to feel

satisfied. Should the SOGIE Bill finally pass, the government should include parts

that talk about the guidelines and laws about gender reassignment.

8. Before learning all about gender reassignment and before watching the film, I

used to think that gender reassignment is an easy procedure that only changes

one’s appearance. After learning all about gender reassignment and after

watching the film, I now think that the transition involves mental and emotional

preparation so that the person may start a new life after they complete the

operations. I also learned that even being a transgender, a person can still be a

parent to a child and can fulfill either or both roles depending on their capability.

Lastly, I have learned that we should eventually learn to accept certain changes

to people, be it in certain ways we did not expect.
