Welcome to Grade 8 Health – Dimensions of Human Sexuality
The Health Learning Guide is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Division of Iloilo Secondary MAPEH Teachers Association (DISMTA) and the Iloilo
Division MAPEH Coordinators Association (IDIMCA) writers, illustrators, layout artists,
reviewers, editors, and Quality Assurance Team from the Department of Education,
Schools Division of Iloilo. This is developed to guide you dear learning facilitators in
helping our learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum.
The Health Learning Guide aims to guide our learners in accomplishing

activities at their own pace and time. This also aims to assist learners in developing and
achieving the lifelong learning skills while considering their needs and situations.
For learning facilitator:
The Health Learning Guide is developed to address the current needs of

the learner to continue learning in the comforts of their homes or learning centers. As
the learning facilitator, make sure that you give them clear instructions on how to study
and accomplish the given activities in the material. Learner’s progress must be
monitored.

needs to continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material aims to

DIMENSIONS OF HUMAN SEXUALITY
BEGIN
Sex is a major aspect of personality. It is closely related to emotional and

social development and can be best understood by connecting it to the adjustment of
the individual in the family and society. The process of sexual development begins from
birth to adulthood and it is a continuous process.
The purpose of gender and human sexuality education is to promote

wholesome family and interpersonal relationships. It aims to provide knowledge and
skills needed to establish and practice healthful behaviors. It aims to produce students
who are responsible and have a healthy sexuality.

Ethical Self
Comes from the Greek ethos "moral character" and describes a person or
behavior as right in the moral sense - truthful, fair, and honest. The way you value
relationships is also referring to your Ethical self.

Emotional Self
The way you feel about yourself and others. Emotional Self-Awareness
is the capacity to tune into your own feelings, sense inner signals, and recognize how
your feelings affect you and your performance. It is an important skill for leadership at
any level, as well as many aspects of life
Social Self
The social self (sometimes referred to as “looking-glass self” or

“presenting self”) was defined as that image that one believes others have of him/her;
and the ideal social self-concept (sometimes referred to as “desired social self”)
denotes that image that one would like others to have about him/her

Mental Self
“The sense of one's own being”, or “the sum total of qualities that
distinguish the mind of one person from that of another”, or “one's personal identity”.

The concept of Physical Self is the individual's perception of themselves in areas

of physical ability and appearance. Physical ability includes concepts such
as physical strength and endurance, while appearance refers to attractiveness.

Healthy sexuality means taking high sense of responsibility for all your actions since this
can affect self-esteem, decision-making, and behaviour.

They will support you and give you confidence, provide companionship and will keep
you from being lonely.
Healthy sexuality encompasses the following characteristics:
SELF LOVE- your acceptance of yourself

SELF KNOWLEDGE- your understanding of your feelings and your character
SELF CONFIDENCE- your awareness of the things that you can do well
SELF RESPECT- your regard for yourself as a worthwhile person
SELF EXPERESSION- your way of showing your individuality in expressing yourself as
a man or as a woman
