in your locality. Post the photographs on Facebook and present your answers briefly. Share your
thoughts about these by answering the following questions:
1. What do you remember or know about this event and how did you feel knowing that
there was a storm coming?
-The Philippines was hit by a massive typhoon way back in 8th of November 2013. Where they
called it as Super Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Super Typhoon Yolanda, it laid waste to the
Visayas group of islands and the country’s central regions. I recall my sister was somewhat
planning to travel for work in Leyte, we were at the airport that time as to her flight got cancelled
due to the typhoon and then later at home as we checked the news it was announced that a
typhoon had landfall in the said area, so a grip of relief to my parents that my sister didn’t
departed that time, as a kid that time I was ignorant with what was going on around the country
not until I watched a coverage news about the typhoon , as I stared at the television my eyes
couldn’t help but shed tears , it was pitiful for the victims whom had encountered that

3. What were the images of devastation dramatized in the poem? Write the lines that describe

One must understand and appreciate what metaphors do to create significations and
insight. The poem describes by the national artist for literature Edith L. Tiempo as
“steeped in metaphor.
4. There were clear references to what the dead were doing in what was left of their town after
the typhoon. What do these suggest about the persona’s attitude towards the event?
The persona’s attitude towards the event is that victims who perished during the storm are
zombie-like
5. Some parts of the poem do not follow the usual writing mechanics. How do you relate this
with the persona’s attitude towards the devastation?
The persona's reaction to the catastrophe is to share her story and inform everyone how people in
Tacloban were affected by Typhoon Haiyan. She also wants to ensure that anybody who reads
her poetry would have an understanding of how people survived the destruction.

“do not sleep” and keep on “looking” for certain people, objects, or place in the town. How

7. Thinking of the poem in terms of its metaphor, what was being suggested by the persona’s
way of perceiving the devastation? How is the event of the calamity related to the calling out
of the Haiyan dead?
The poem describes tha Haiyan dead as not sleeping and walking among us endlessly sleepless .
the persona’s way of perceiving the devastation suggest that some people were not being laid
Now that you have already read the poem of Hayian dead and have done some of the activities,
this time you are going to interpret the poem.
According to my interpretation. The poem is about how Typhoon Yolanda, also known as
Haiyan, destroyed many items and significantly changed the lives of many people. We are all
aware that this storm was one of the most intense natural catastrophes that some of our fellow
citizens have ever experienced. The poem depicts how everything, including the people's means
of livelihood, was destroyed in a very short period of time. It also took the lives of others,
including the ambitions and dreams of young people. The fatalities of the Yolanda typhoon are
known to as the "Haiyan dead," and this poem also addresses how horrific typhoons are. When
the hurricane came, many were hoping for miracles and praying for help.
