Overview In this context, we will be going to know what are the different
theories.
Sociologists study social events, interactions, and patterns, and they
develop a theory in an attempt to explain why things work as they do.
A sociological theory seeks to explain social phenomena. Theories can
be used to create a testable proposition, called a hypothesis, about
society (Allan 2006).
In sociology, a few theories provide broad perspectives that help
explain many different aspects of social life, and these are called
paradigms. Paradigms are philosophical and theoretical frameworks
used within a discipline to formulate theories, generalizations, and the
experiments performed in support of them. Three paradigms have
come to dominate sociological thinking, because they provide useful
explanations: structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic
interactionism.
Targets/ At the end of 1-hour and 30-minute session, the participants shall

4.Illustrate the theories according to roles and implications of

Content Activate
Outline 1. For 5-7 minutes, each participant will share its knowledge that
explain and describe the different theories.
TASK: Defining Theories
2. The participants will be grouped into five (5) using the words
available in the box. The words may go horizontally, vertically,
upward.

to collaborate and share with their groupmates. Each group is allotted
for 5-minute time presentation. Through the words given participants
will give their own thoughts and opinion about the theories.

A 10-minute discussion /brainstorming will be given to the participants

to collaborate and share with their groupmates. Each group is allotted
for 3-minute time presentation. Through the chart given they will get
the ideas and opinion by illustrating the different theories.
ACQUIRE: The facilitator will prepare lecture discussion so that the

participants can have their independent and interactive learning. (5
minutes per lecture discussion, 10 minutes for this task)
Lecture 1 Explain theories, Structural-functional theory, Conflict theory

and Symbolic Interaction.
APPLY: Using the Venn diagram, differentiate the similarities and

difference between the 3 theories.
After answering the diagram, they will write a brief reflection about
the theories.
Target 1. Explain sociological theories.
Activities 2. Distinguish the difference theories.
3. Note and illustrate the similarities and difference of all the theories
given.
Target 1. Defining the theories and how it helps for the implications of
Deliverables education.
2. Data Retrieval Chart to measure the strength and weakness of the
theories.
3. Venn Diagram through the similarities and differences.
4. Poster making, by integrating the concepts of all the theories.
Assessment 1. Create an poster making that will explain the different theories, the
structural-functional theory, conflict theory, and symbolic theory. This
activity is for individual. to know if they learn something from the
lesson.
