STRENGTHENING THE FIRE SAFETY AND AWARENESS PROGRAM
AMIDST THE PANDEMIC

'1.The safety of schools is one crucial factor that supports holistic development of every
learner. DRRM aims at reducing the vulnerability to, and impact of disasters on schools. lt
also prepares both teachers and learners for possible natural or human-induced disasters,
thereby mitigating the impact of any disasterr

2. ln light with recent fire incident in one of our elementary schools and to further strengthen
the fire safety and awareness program amidst the pandemic situation as stated in DepEd
Order no. 28, s.2016 entitled 'S&engfhening the Firc Safety and Awareness Program",lhis
Office thru School Governance and Operations Division- Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management hereby recommends the following programslmeasures to be implemented in
school level:

2.1. assess electrical system inside and outside of school buildings;


2.2. coordinate with the Municipal Fire Station for Annual Fire Safety lnspection,
secure Flre Safety Ceftificate.
2.3. enforce proper waste management and disposal of unnecessary items;
2.4. re-orientation of the school personnel on the following DepEd Orders and
materials:
a. DO no. 28, s,2016- Strengthening the Fire Safety and Awareness Program
b. DO no. 13, s. 201 3- Reitenting the Obseruance of the Fire Prevention
Month through the Continuing Fire Safety and Awareness
Program (FSAP)
c. DO no. 72, s.2012- Continiing Fire Safety and Awareness Program
(FSAP) ln Schoo/s
d. DRRM Manual
e. Educational Facilities Manual
2.5. installation of the following:
a. Fire Extinguisher and other fire safety equipment in every building;
b. Fire ExiU Evacuation Plan and;
c. Emergency Hotline Numbers in every classroom.

3. ln addition, main entrance shall provide enough clearance for fire trucks and medical
vehicles. lmprovement of school entrance/exits shall be included in the School lmprovement
Plan (SlP).

4. The School Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) may be utilized in the
implementation of the suggested fire safety and awareness programs/measures.

5. As a reiteration, strict compliance on the minimum public health standards for Covid-19
mitigation should always be ensured.

6. Private schools may also comply with this memorandum.

7. For your queries and concerns, you may contact Mr. James Angelo T. Afro, Project
