understanding of literature and other text types for a deeper appreciation of
World Literature, including Philippine Literature.

● Critique a literary selection using the different approaches (EN10WC-

Checking of attendance

A. Review of previous lessons or present a new lesson.


Review of the previous lesson through word cloud/Slido
Learners are asked to give words associated to Literary Criticism
What is a Literary Criticism?
What are the different approaches to Literary criticism?

B. Establish a purpose of the lesson (Objectives)


1. analyze the approach used by the writer to critique a text;
2. organize information given to form a critique
3. write a critique of a story using Feminist approach; and
4. contribute meaningfully to class discussion by sharing insights of
the topic.

C. Present examples/instances of the new lesson (motivation)


Ask learners to look closely at the given pictures.
Ask:
1. What do the pictures tell us?
2. What is common to all the pictures?

D. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills

Feminist Approach
Feminist criticism focuses on prevailing societal beliefs about women in an
attempt to expose the oppression of women on various levels by patriarchal
systems both contemporary and historical.
It also explores:
* role of women in literary work
* representation of women
* power structures between men and women/patriarchal system
* stereotypical representation of gender/ gender stereotyping
* gender equality

Activity:
                                      Learners watch a trailer of the movie “Little Women”, then they will 
                                         identify prevailing  societal beliefs about women underscored in the 
                                          movie trailer

E. Developing Mastery (Formative Assessment)


Give the class a sample Feminist critique: A Feminist Literary Criticism of the
poem “ I’m wife: I’ve finished that” by Emily Dickinson.

Group Activity
The class is divided into four groups
Each group is given strips of papers containing paragraphs which
they will arrange accordingly to form a Feminist Critique.
A representative from each group presents their output to the class.
F. Practical Applications of Concepts and Skills in Daily Living
Ask: What is the representation of women in today’s society? How do you
describe women nowadays?

G. Making Generalizations and Abstractions about the Lesson


What is the importance of Literary Criticism?
How does literary criticism enhance our enjoyment of reading literary works?

H. Evaluate Learning ( Summative Assessment)


Written Output #4: Feminist Literary Criticism (Graded)

1. Read Filomena Colendrino’s story “Why Women Wash the Dishes”.
