To the lovely Ate Charing,

Recently, I watched your most recent film on Rachel and her family. After seeing their story, I
felt a lot of different things. Lessons for living were imparted to me and, I imagine, countless
others through their experiences. In spite of time passing, I can't bring myself to forget about
their ordeal. Gosh, that was the worst thing that had happened to me.
Everything about the vacation Rachel and her family were taking was going swimmingly until a
tsunami hit. Among the broken pieces of the city's infrastructure, Rachel was struggling to keep
afloat. Upon getting to her feet, the extent of her wounds became immediately apparent. After
realizing that my own feelings had been mirrored by the character's suffering, I had to laugh at
the irony. She set out to find her family despite her poor health, only to discover their bodies
when she arrived. She never gave up hope of finding her firstborn son, Lucas, and continued her
search until she finally located him. Rachel's body had given out from the numerous wounds
she'd incurred, so they gathered together to hunt for her husband and two kids, but they never
found them.
A kind stranger helped them out and drove them to the hospital. Lucas slips away from his
mother to spend time with his dad and younger siblings. When he gradually lost hope and just
thought about her mom suffering in the hospital, his mother's words, "you must be intelligent and
think in positive attitude at all times since there is a way in any hurdle and giving up should
never be an option," rang in his ears. He found his father and two siblings thanks to the
encouragement he received from his mother. They rushed to the hospital, but by the time they
got there, their mother was in critical condition. Upon witnessing her loved ones united again,
Rachel regained her lost fortitude and was anxious to begin the healing process. She thanked
God for allowing them to keep going despite everything that had happened.
What I learned from them is that no matter how bad things appear, there is always a way to make
things better. Everyone can take inspiration from them. Rachel's boundless positivity and
tenacity motivate me to develop the same traits in myself. She embodies the ideal that everybody
can achieve their dreams. Someone who is feeling down on themselves can discover a role model
in her. For giving herself the finest that the world could never give her, she has my deepest
admiration.
I appreciate it.

Sincerely,

SPLA 2
Disaster Profile

Name of place Brief background of hazard that happen in the

area
Name of Hazard: Inadequately guarded stored goods, building
fires due to gas leaks or electrical shorts, and
Earthquake exposure to chemicals discharged from stored
or process chemicals pose the greatest threats
to workers. Identifying, planning for, and
mitigating many of the hazards that workers
face both during and after an earthquake is
possible.

Photo Disaster Risk

Exposure- Earthquakes can occur anywhere

in, which means all live with an earthquake
risk.  In addition to the shaking caused by
earthquakes, other things can occur such as
landslides, surface fault ruptures and
liquefaction--all of which may cause injury or
property damage.  Some areas within are also
vulnerable to tsunamis should an earthquake
occur.
Coping Capacity- They works to ensure the
state's natural resources are managed
responsibly while simultaneously protecting
the environment and bolstering the state's
economy. ShakeMaps (a visual representation
of earthquake-induced ground shaking),
probability calculators, shaking risks, and
hazard zones are only some of the earthquake-
related resources available on the California
Geological Survey's (CSG) earthquake
website.
Vulnerability- Consider where you might feel
most secure and go there. Avoid being
crushed by falling windows, bookcases, or
other tall furniture by taking cover under a
strong table or desk, or pressing yourself up
against an interior wall. The less time it takes
to reach a safe location, the less likely you are
to sustain an injury while making the journey.
Those who move even 10 feet during an
earthquake are statistically more likely to be
hurt, according to studies of such things.
 Overall Disaster Risk- Conditions
under which evacuation would be
necessary (considering the above
information);
 When sheltering in place may be a
better alternative;
 A clear chain of command and
designation of the person in workplace
authorized to order an evacuation;
 Specific evacuation procedures,
including routes and exits;

LAUENGCO: BTS movement template for helping farmers
 March 22, 2023, 8:13 am
“My grandfather used to say that at least once in your life, you will need a doctor, a lawyer, a
policeman, and a preacher. But every day, three times a day, you will need a farmer.” - Brenda
SchoeppFarmers are truly an integral part of our lives. Unfortunately, our farmers still
lack... Read More
In the first stage, a sustainable modular cold storage unit was tested out in Benguet to aid local
farmers in maintaining the quality of their harvests. It's becoming clear that more private
organizations, both domestically and internationally, are responding to the government's appeal
for more private sector organizations, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME), and large
company collaborations with local farmers.
Perhaps more people are coming to appreciate why it's so crucial to help our farmers. Almost
1,500 farmers were recently assembled in a Cabanatuan City alley by a non-profit called Basta
Tayo Sama Sama (BTS) to learn about BTS's programs to improve their business skills and those
of their staff. BTS is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded by businesspeople and
other professionals to aid in the self-empowerment of specific groups. Everyone who receives
aid from the group merely has to agree to "pay it forward" in some way.
A number of farmer and MSME organizations have been organized and assisted, and sessions for
expanding their abilities have been held, all under the radar, by the organization for the previous
five years. Accepting proposals for income-generating activities from individuals or groups,
vetting them for viability, and offering start-up loans to the most promising ones is one such
scheme. The group also presents crash courses in business-related subjects including advertising
and finance. More "agri-preneurs" with the skills to serve their communities by, for example,
providing jobs have been fostered as a result of these initiatives.
BTS has also begun its logistic chain projects, which aim to assist farmers and other small
business owners in selling their products directly to consumers, thus eliminating the need for
exploitative intermediaries.
The group has opened up BTS shops where its members' wares can be sold at reduced prices to
the public, with the proceeds going to the group's members. The association has helped its
members learn how to apply for grants and other forms of funding from the government and
private businesses in order to increase the amount of money available for the programs.
Its members have been assisted in submitting necessary documentation and liaising with relevant
government and commercial organizations. After a short period of time, the group's membership
increased dramatically. The BTS organization and its members have spread across the country.
The members' shared success has inspired many to "pay it forward" and aid those in need.
Maybe other people and groups will follow BTS's lead and launch creative efforts to aid our
farmers.

ZALDARRIAGA: Future-proofing through digitalization, technology advancements
 March 21, 2023, 7:55 pm
Companies around the globe are noticeably banking on technological advancements to grow
their businesses and maintain the efficiency and relevance of their products, services and
systems. The nature of the rapidly evolving world demands such, that only those that can keep
pace, are expected to...
The world over, businesses large and small are placing their faith in cutting-edge technologies to
help them expand their operations, while also ensuring that their goods and services remain
competitive. The world is changing at such a breakneck pace that only the most adaptive will
thrive.
MVP Group has been advocating for the widespread use of new technologies in the Philippines
in order to improve the quality of life for its clients and the general populace. The group has long
advocated for a growth mentality and the use of technology to better people's lives. MVP Group
Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan or MVP highlighted the goals and programs intended to
improve the delivery of services across multiple firms and units in a recent interview with
Context PH.
He claims that the success of PLDT, the leading telecommunications and digital services
provider in the Philippines, is dependent on a two-pronged strategy. One of the primary goals
should be the expansion of existing services, which include wired and wireless telephone
communication. MVP noted that technology has a major influence on 5G, home broadband, and
enterprise. MVP deemed the growth of an intellectual capital business over PLDT's physical
layer to be the more important factor. It encompasses the creation of innovative solutions for
businesses and the expansion of data center projects beyond the realm of real estate.
MVP is cited as stating in the interview, "We have to focus on that because that's really where
the future values will be — solutions and applications for both individuals and companies." He
also urged PLDT to invest in the innovative technology being developed by the MPIC group.
DriveHub, a travel companion app, provides mobility solutions like RFID transactions, trip
planning, and roadside assistance, and mWell is the country's first completely integrated and
totally digital health and wellness platform.
When asked about the electricity industry, MVP spoke seriously on the topic receiving a lot of
attention right now: nuclear power. He is certain of its impending arrival in the country, but notes
that it will be several years before the government can make full use of the technology for
widespread distribution. Being an archipelago, the country is well suited for small nuclear
modular reactors, which will be especially helpful in remote places not connected to the national
grid.
With its long-term ambitions under the sustainability agenda "Powering the Good Life,"
Meralco, the power component of the business and the country's largest electric distribution
utility, has considered sourcing from nuclear technology.
LAUREL: China: World's peacemaker
 March 21, 2023, 11:16 am

The Americans presented a firm but proper front in the face of the possibility that China would
succeed in initiating peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. The South China Morning
Post ran a story with the headline, "White House celebrates idea of Xi Jinping chatting with
Ukrainian president Zelenskyy," but shortly after, the US tone turned sour.
This exclusion of China's role as mediator in the Iran-Saudi Arabia peace pact is indicative of
Western animosity at China's successful peacemaking efforts. China's critical involvement in
bringing the two sides, Iran and Saudi Arabia, to Beijing for negotiations and signing the peace
accord was completely ignored in the March 10, 2023 story.
The United States initially welcomed the prospect of Xi-Zelenskyy negotiations, but has since
indicated that it is "firmly opposed" to a ceasefire that is part of Xi's peace plan and would be
presented to Putin and Zelenskyy to initiate peace talks. When the possibility of peace comes, the
US's malice, cynicism, and nihilism become readily apparent.
The three-nation pact AUKUS convened in San Diego, California early in the week to "unveil
their much anticipated plan for arming Austarlia with nuclear-powered submarines," providing
yet another example of US malice this month. Paul Keating, a former prime minister of
Australia, responded to the news with a "blistering" tirade.
The Guardian has a headline reading, "Keating deems Aukus submarines 'worst bargain in
history,'" which is echoed by the majority of Western media outlets' coverage of the topic. By
keeping an eye on the local discourse, I was able to see the outpouring of opposition to AUKUS
and the widespread backlash against the "China menace" propaganda spread by the Australian
Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) and several Australian media outlets.
Several warmongers, including Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, BAE Systems,
and the United States Department of Defense, bankroll the Australian Strategic Policy Institute
(ASPI). A total of nine Australian newspapers, including The AGE with the headline
"Australia'must prepare for threat of China war'" and the Sydney Morning Herald with the
headline "War risk exposed," have lately published a "Red Alert" series in response to ASPI's
warnings.

There will be war between Australia and China within three years, according to the headline on
9News Australia. As well as former Prime Minister Paul Keating, several independent news
analysts and pundits spoke out against the enormous "China war" campaign in response to the
"China threat" hyperbole.
SAMONTE: Completion of Mindanao Ave. Extension seen under PBBM admin
 March 16, 2023, 1:48 pm
There is bright hope that the long-delayed Mindanao Avenue Extension from the North Luzon

Under President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos's "Build Better More" Program, there is
promising prospect that the long-delayed Mindanao Avenue Extension from the North Luzon
Expressway-Mindanao Avenue Toll Plaza in Ugong, Valenzuela City to Gen. Luis Street in
Barangay Caybiga, Novaliches, North Caloocan City will be completed (PBBM).
This can be deduced from the coordinated efforts of the Department of Public Works and
Highways (DPWH), the National Housing Authority (NHA), and the Caloocan City
government's Local Inter-Agency Committee to tear down the final 127 homes in Sitio Gitna,
Caybiga that stand in the way of the ROW for the crucial government project. Caloocan,
Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela, all part of the Northern Police District (NPD), are assisting
the DPWH-NHA demolition crews (Camanava).
The National Housing Authority has announced that the affected families will receive financial
aid and relocation to the nearby Barangay Camarin in Novaliches, North Caloocan. They further
stated that since 2018, they have recommended that all impacted homeowners leave their homes
due to the ongoing road construction. The six-lane, 3.2-kilometer-long Mindanao Avenue
Extension Project Stage II-C of the NLEX will continue to be concreted once the road right-of-
way has been cleared by the DPWH. It is now hoped that the project can be completed before
Marcos leaves office. Construction of the route begins close to the Metro Manila Subway Depot
Station being built in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City.
After construction is finished, the route will reduce the long-standing traffic congestion that has
plagued Novaliches and other parts of northern Metro Manila for years. After leaving the toll
plaza on the Mindanao Avenue-NLEX portion traveling from Valenzuela City toward Quezon
City, drivers may observe a road sign or notification illustrating the severity of the traffic
situation: "Espressway Terminus. I need you to slow down right now." Not explicitly said, but
might be understood as "You are entering the Novaliches district, which is notorious for its
heavy traffic."
According to the DPWH website, Mindanao Avenue is a section of Circumferential Route 5 (C-
5) in Metro Manila and is an eight- to ten-lane divided boulevard that connects Epifanio Delos
Santos Avenue (EDSA) and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
LAUENGCO: Neurodivergence in PH: The fight for awareness, inclusivity
 March 15, 2023, 2:46 pm
People whose brains develop or function differently for whatever reason are said to be
neurodiverse. This is not a medical term. This individual's talents and challenges will be distinct
from those of persons whose minds "normally" develop or function. Autism spectrum disorder,
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties are all examples
of the classic definitions of neurodiversity.
The events planned for this week aim to improve the way neurodivergent people are accepted
and cared for. The neurodiversity movement celebrates the diverse ways in which people with
different brains view, interact with, and interpret the world. One in seven people, or 15–20% of
the global population, may be neurodiverse. Ten percent of adults around the world are affected
by dyslexia, making it the most prevalent form of neurodiversity. The next most common
disorders are ADD/ADHD (4-5%) and autism (1-2%).
Due to underreporting, incorrect diagnosis, or a lack of adequate measurement programs,
neurodiversity data in the Philippines is limited. There is no consensus on how common autism
is; estimates range from 1 in 100 people to 1 in 500. One in twenty people is affected with
ADHD, according to studies. We lack reliable data on the prevalence of dyslexia in the country,
but estimates place the number somewhere around the 10% mark, in line with global estimates.
Despite these numbers, it's sad that neurodiversity education and acceptance remain low in the
Philippines. The prevalence of neurodivergence is not widely known or discussed among
Filipinos unless personally affected.

SPLA 3
State of Public health emergency declared din PH
By Azer Parrocha
1. Based on the video/article, what perspective/s of disaster does it imply?
- As a part of the government's preventative measure to prepare national and local governments,
as well as public and private health care providers, for a potential increase in suspected and
confirmed cases of the disease, the Department of Health (DOH) has raised the Covid-19 Alert
System to Code Red sublevel This was done in response to the most recent development, which
prompted the DOH to do so.
Duque was in charge of making sure that the full implementation of heightened contact tracing
and home quarantine of close contacts of confirmed cases, improved hospital preparedness,
enhanced Severe Acute Respiratory Illness surveillance, and the activation of other laboratories
outside of the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine to increase capacity to diagnose were all
carried out. He also assured the public that the Department of Health (DOH) would take
measures to protect Filipinos from the Covid-19 virus.
2. What do you think are the significant needs of the people in the video/article?
- I think we need a sense of security. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused global economic
contractions that have greatly exceeded those that were caused by the Great Recession, which
ended in 2009, and have happened at a much faster rate. These contractions have affected many
industries and many of the world's major companies.
There is still a significant amount of uncertainty regarding the pace and path of the recovery,
particularly considering the growing number of cases, which has led to another round of limited
national restrictions, as well as the behavior of the virus in relation to the changing weather. This
is especially true in light of the fact that there has been a recent increase in the number of people
who have contracted the virus.
3. Do you agree with the perspective of the President in mitigating the effect/s of the disaster?
- Yes, A pandemic caused by the coronavirus would be considered to be in the category of
biological risks. This would make it a catastrophe for the entire world. The epidemic caused by
COVID-19 is consistent with important conclusions that have been derived from disaster
anthropology over the course of the past few decades. Although though the size of this epidemic
is unprecedented, researchers in the field of disaster anthropology have been working on
situations quite comparable to this one for a long time. Even though anthropology is unable to
"explain" what is going on, it does afford us the opportunity to investigate how people cope with
and find meaning in the events that they are experiencing. The pandemic was not the only
catastrophic event that occurred. Without casting doubt on the necessity of the lockdowns that
have been observed in various parts of the world, the implications of this strategy reflect further
layers of the COVID-19 calamity.
4. Suppose you have the authority to give suggestions to the President in reducing the impacts of
the disaster in the video, what advice will you give him? Justify your answer.
- Without immediate socioeconomic remedies, misery on a worldwide scale would worsen,
putting people's lives and ways of making a living in jeopardy for years to come. During this
time of crisis, it is imperative that immediate development responses be made with an eye toward
the future. The decisions that countries make in the present and the assistance that they get will
have an impact on the long-term development trajectories of those countries.
Both the national and local governments are experiencing considerable strain on their financial
resources as a direct result of the growing number of people who are at risk and the expanding
range of their requirements. A sudden loss in tax revenues is the result of several factors,
including a reduction in exports, a slump in earnings from tourism as well as remittances, and a
severe contraction of economic activity.
5. What do you think is the role of the government in qualifying the effects of a disaster?
- The public is the beneficiary of any and all warnings, whether they are official or unofficial.
They are the end receiver of all warnings. Communities that are at danger have a right to receive
accurate information regarding the threat as well as explanatory assistance that will enable them
to respond in an appropriate and timely manner. It is up to the communities to take the required
precautions and make the necessary preparations to protect themselves against potential natural
disasters like COVID-19. The public needs to have a clear understanding of how they will be
notified (official and unofficial warnings), how they should react and respond to the situation,
where they should go, and how they may minimize any confusion that may arise.
