Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

My name is Amanda Mckaye, and I'll be your child’s teacher for the upcoming school
year. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and guiding your child through a
successful school year.

First, allow me to share a little about myself. Teaching is my life's passion, and I have
been instructing students of all ages for 5 years. This is my second year working at
Canyon High School.

My years of experience as a teacher have shaped a teaching philosophy that guides

how I help my students succeed in the classroom and beyond. I truly believe that their
success begins with making them comfortable in the classroom, so I start our school
year with plenty of activities so everyone can get to know one another. I encourage
them to share their questions and opinions in an unbiased and open environment.

I strive to create a space for students to explore their own learning styles, then I'm there
to help develop their interests and guide their absorption of the material. One of the
procedures I will be implementing is greeting my students so that they feel welcome
everyday to learn in my class. Another thing they can expect is an entry assignment that
won’t take long but will be required at the start of class. One of the last procedures I
would like to touch on is a policy regarding bathroom use at the beginning of class.
There will be an expectation that the restroom be used during passing periods and as
such for the first 10 minutes of class my students won’t be permitted to leave for the
bathroom. This will be explained to them in class, but so there is no confusion I am
informing you as well of this policy.

Grading will be done on the standard 0-100% scale.

A-90-100 Excellent
B-80-89 Above-average
C-70-79 Average
D-60-69 Below-average
F-0-59 Failure
When your child misses work or is going to be late with it this is what will need to be
done. First, please inform me. Communication is key in everything done in my class. In
most situations we can come to some understanding of how to accomplish the goal of
turning in your child’s work on time, but if not then we will discuss it further. If they have
a legitimate reason for late work then it will be given full credit when turned in. If not
then my policy will be a 5% deduction for each day it is late until that reaches 60%.
(This does not account for any demerits received from mistakes on the work turned in).

It's my goal to host regular parent/teacher conferences and make sure you're aware of
your child’s progress throughout the school year. I invite you to be an active participant
in her education, as this will only help her to grow in knowledge.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter of introduction. Please reach
out if you have any questions or concerns. My email is amanda.mckaye@comalisd.org,
or feel free to call me at the school during normal school hours.

Best,

Amanda Mckaye
