(Playing Balitaw sa Panghangyo sa
Gugma)
The balitaw is an old Visayan folk song. Its
“Based on what you just watched, what is meter is the same as the kundiman's triple
Balitaw?” time, but the balitaw proceeds in a lifting and
joyful manner. One is tempted to dance when
the enticing strains of the balitaw is heard. It
was originally an indigenous song and dance
debate or dialogue song in which a man and
woman compete to see who is better at
improvising romantic verses. It is sung more
than it is danced. The lyrics are expressions of
the Visayan activities and experiences, and
sometimes memorized in advance.
