1.0 Getting Ready to Learn
1.1 Making the transition (from school to university)
1.2 Characteristics of successful students
1.3 Using learning styles to enhance performance
2
1.0 Getting Ready to Learn
All my life I have transferred school three times, so meeting new people and introducing
myself to them has become second nature to me. What’s hard to me is adapting to the
learning curve after transitioning from school to university. School and university have a
totally different learning environment. In school, everything happens in a structured
classroom and all material was given to us. In universities, the students attend classes,
scheduled one after another, get assignments and go home. It is way harder for us university
students. However, I challenge myself to tough it out because I see this as an opportunity to
explore and become more responsible.
1.Disciplined
If we want to be a successful student, we need to plant this trait inside us. Discipline
is essential for a better education. Discipline is required in students' lives because
education is incomplete without it. It encourages students to pay close attention to
their teachers and to comprehend the entire curriculum.
2.Punctual
As a student, our time management needs to be top tier. Punctuality helps us students
manage our academic and personal life with a perfect strike of balance. Students who
are always on time earn the utmost respect and social acceptance in schools in
society than the students who are not. They are every professor’s favourite for a
reason.
3.Organized
The benefits of being an organized student is that you will stay on track and earn the
grades you deserve. Being organized prepares you for the working world, where
organizational skills are a requirement in many jobs
As students, we must strive to improve our performance. We can improve our performance
by being well versed with learning styles. There are numerous types of learning styles.
Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Visual learning involves learning from what we see, like
graphic image, PowerPoint, articles, videos, pictures, or illustrations. Unlike visual learning,
auditory learning involves using your hearing sense to learn something. Hearing audio from
podcasts, videos, oral presentations, group discussions, or one-on-one conversations are some
examples. Finally, kinesthetic is a method that involves using your physical abilities, such as
taking notes or role-playing. Me personally, I've always preferred auditory learning over
everything.

2.0 Goal Setting and Learning Management System
DO NOT PROCRASTINATE
I don’t want to delay work or assignments that have been assigned to me anymore, I’ve
had enough of doing last minute work. The feeling of being chased by time is so mentally
damaging. It also ruins your sleeping schedule and make you all around unhealthy.
ALWAYS BE EARLY
A lecturer of mine once said, “don’t be punctual, be early”. Even though the first part of
the phrase contradicts with what I said in 1.2, it makes perfect sense to be early rather
than punctual.
TAKE NOTES
Instead of just taking picture of slides that are being presented and explained in front of
the class, I need to practise taking notes. This is because when you take notes while
attending a lecture, you focus more on the lecturer's words and understand more, making
your notes sensible enough to be understood later. It teaches you how to prioritise as
well.
Writing effective goals are important for student because it demonstrates your writing ability
on a more personal level for your graduate program. It also discuss your personal, career, and
educational goals, or respond to a general question posed by the graduate school admissions
committee. To add up, it evaluates your critical and analytical thinking, as well as your
writing, editing, and general reasoning skills, as well as your ability to reflect on your
education and work experience. Lastly, it provides information about yourself to help
determine whether you would be a good fit for a particular graduate program or not.

3.0 Time Management & Amp; Organizational Skills
3.1 Optimizing study time
Students need to optimize our study time properly. Without rushing them all at once, students
should prioritise the work that needs to be done first. Spend some time rearranging the order
of the tasks you should complete in order to prevent undesirable outcomes, such as
incomplete and low-quality work.
Maintaining a study schedule or routine can help some students stay motivated. A schedule
allows you to set aside specific study times throughout the day, week, and/or month. This can
assist you in staying focused on the big picture and maintaining your focus throughout the
academic year. Use a digital or paper calendar to schedule study time into your days. This
creates a habit, allowing for consistency and incorporating specific times of day for studying
into your day.
Before moving in, I did a few research about Kolej Jasmine in Puncak Perdana. So when I
was finally there, it’s like dejavu all over again. I know where the faculties, ATM, cafeteria,
library, hall, water dispenser and other facilities are at. The place I visit the most is the
library. I go to the library frequently because I found peace there. The place is also fully air
conditioned so that’s a plus. I go there to work on my assignments, search for reference books
and sometimes just for fun. Compared to other UiTM colleges, my college is quite small. It
feels like a small desolate town. Everyone have bumped into each other at least once here. I
very much like the atmosphere here.

5.0 Memory, Learning and Improving Concentration
5.1 Understanding memory processes
Students need to pay close attention when the lecturer is speaking. Students can
review the notes that were given in class. After a lecture, students can try to improve
their memory by telling a friend what they learned and what was discussed in the
lecture. Aside from that, group discussions can help students improve their social
skills and memory process. Students can also try to practise by doing an exercise on
the topic and demonstrating how to explain the subject given to them.
Concentration is the ability to direct one's attention in accordance with one's will. It implies
attention control. It is the ability to concentrate on a single subject, object, or thought without
being distracted. This is the ability to focus one's attention while ignoring unrelated thoughts.
Concentration allows you to make better use of your resources and approach problems more
effectively. When you concentrate, you are less likely to miss important information. Staying
focused allows you to memorise things more easily.

6.0 Taking Lecture Notes
Taking notes is essential because it forces you to pay attention and focus in class. It will keep
you focused on what your lecturer is saying. Taking notes will keep your body and mind
active. It will also keep your mind busy. Listening carefully to what was said and deciding
what to write down would then work your left brain make your mind more efficient. The
quality of the notes is determined by how attentive we are while listening.
In order for a student to be take a good and understandable note. They need to have their own
note taking system. One of the ways to take notes effectively is to take notes that are visually
clear, concise, organised, and structured so that they are easy to read and understand later.
Use abbreviations and symbols to keep your notes concise and brief. Instead of full sentences,
use bullets and phrases.

7.0 Academic Integrity and Performance
Students need to avoid plagiarism at all cost. Even as tempting as it is. It is a violation
of academic integrity and represents poor scholarship. Plagiarism, whether intentional
or unintentional, can have long-term consequences for one's future career. The student
or researcher bears the responsibility for avoiding plagiarism.
