1. What are input devices?
Ans. The devices that are used to enter instructions into the computer are called input
devices.

2. What are the full forms of OCR and OMR?


Ans. OCR- Optical Character Recognition, OMR- Optical Mark Recognition.

3. Give names of any two input devices.


Ans. The two input devices are keyboard and mouse.

4. Give names of any two output devices.


Ans. The two output devices are monitor and printer.

5. List names of any two non-impact printers.


Ans. The two non-impact printers are inkjet printer and laser printer.

6. What are impact printers?


Ans. An impact printer makes contact with the paper. It usually forms the print image by

1. What is a scanner? Describe types.


Ans. A scanner allows you to scan information printed on paper or some other media. The
scanned information is transferred to a computer’s hard disk for further processing. It uses
a light beam to scan the input data. The various types of scanner are-
a. Flatbed scanner: A flatbed scanner takes some space on your desk. Depending on its
size, it can fit standard (A4) or legal sized documents, and the flexible cover allows you
to scan large items such as books. It is great for scanning the occasional newspaper
article, book chapter, or photograph.
b. Handheld scanner: A handheld scanner is moved by hand over the information that is
to be scanned. It is much smaller and less expensive than a flatbed scanner.

2. Distinguish between impact and non-impact computers? Give examples of each.
