NAME: BATCH: ROLL. NO.

DATE:

(A) Resolve the velocities along normal & tangential to the plane.

(B) What is the velocity of approach of ball tawards plank?.

(C) If, after collision, if V' be the velocity of ball with Vy & Vx being its y and x components, what
would be velocity of separation. (velocity of plank does not change as it is given to be moved with
constant velocity)

(D) If ‘e’ be the coefficient of restitution find the components Vx & Vy and hence the final velocity
of ball.

(E) If e = 1,  = 370, Vp = 3m/s & V0 = 4m/s

(i) How is velocity of ball with respect to plank (before collision) directed to the plank?

(ii) Does the answer to (i) help you in getting a quicker process to find V' (i.e. velocity of ball
after the collision with the given values? If yes, how?

force on this system?
(ii)(a) What kind of motion you visualize for the centre of mass of the system chosen in (i) ?
(b) Would it be at rest or in motion?
(c) In case, it is in motion, what would be the direction of velocity of centre of mass?
(d) Is it constant in magnitude or variable?

(iii) How would be velocities of the particles directed just before collision?
(a) In ground’s reference frame?
(b) In reference frame of hoop?

(iv) Draw vector diagram for velocities of particles & hoop in ground’s reference frame.

(v) What is the total momentum & kinetic energy of the chosen system?
(a) Initially (b) Just before collision

DPP-32-(2)
Q2.(i) Which of the following two equations would be directly associated with the average force, you
intend to find?

   dP
F  Ma or F
dt

(ii) The equations given in (i) are for instantaneous values of F . How would you modify them for the
average value of force?

(iii) Remind yourself of the force whose value is required and decide about the time interval over
which this average value should be calculated. How do you justify your choice for the time interval?

Q3(i). What would be total momentum of the system comprising the superdense material and earth
initially? Is it conserved?

(ii). What would be ratio of distances travelled by the superdense material to that of the earth? How
do you justify your answer?

(iii). How are the distances travelled by the two bodies related to ‘g’ i.e. magnitude of acceleration due
to gravity?

Q4.(i) For a given impulse J , what would be initial KE of the system comprising both the blocks and the
spring?

(ii) Subsequent to the impulse J being imparted to 1 kg block.
(a) Will the momentum of chosen system remain conserved?
(b) Will the (KE + PEs) remain conserved?

(iii) To move block of mass 2kg, what should be the minimum compression/elongation in the spring?

(iv) For minimum value of J , what should be KE of 1 kg block at the moment the other block is about
to start its motion?
