Affected: OptiView Control Center
General
This is not a collection of troubleshooting procedures. Rather, this identifies the starting point and fundamental
approach to problem solving.
The overall system architecture, individual component operation (printed circuit boards, power supply, display)
and the interface/signal flow between those components must be understood. The level of understanding needs to
be no deeper than that which is presented in the Optiview Service Manual.
The proper documentation is required. Documentation is a tool. Just as a bolt cannot be readily removed without a
wrench, effective troubleshooting cannot be performed without the required documentation.
The most important step is the first step. The displayed status messages must be understood before proceeding.
When a chiller shuts down on a SAFETY or CYCLING shutdown, or is being prevented from starting because of
a START INHIBIT, a message is displayed providing the reason for the event. The conditions required to pro-
duce the message and those required to clear it and permit chiller re-start are explained in the Optiview Operation
Manual. These conditions must be clearly understood before proceeding with troubleshooting. The message, along
with all chiller operating conditions at the instant of the event are captured and stored in the Microboard battery-
backed memory (BRAM) as HISTORY data. This History data is available from the History Screen. This should
be referred to prior to proceeding.
Knowledge Required
You must have an overall understanding of the system architecture, general operation of each component (printed
circuit boards, display, power supply) and interface/signal flow between components. This is explained in the
Optiview Service Manual.
Tools Required
Optiview Service Manual
The overall system architecture is described and illustrated with block diagrams. Component interface and signal
flow between components are included. The operation of each component is explained and illustrated with a block
diagram. The expected voltage level at the inputs and outputs of each component, for any operating condition, is
included. See the Reference list for documentation.
Wiring Diagram
Illustrates the connections between all components. See the Reference list for documentation.
Voltmeter
Used for measuring voltage levels at inputs and outputs of components.
Troubleshooting
1. Read message on “System Status” and “System Details” lines of the Display.
2. Refer to the Optiview Operation Manual for an explanation of the message(s).
3. Refer to “History” Screen and view details of the event. Look for conditions or events that could have
contributed to the problem.
4. Armed with the knowledge of system interface, component operation and signal-flow, use the Service
Manual and chiller Wiring Diagram to trace the problem through the system.
