Final Presentation – Barcelona

SSP 100 02

Barcelona is in the north eastern coast of Spain. If you were to travel from Greensburg to

Barcelona it would take up to 20 hours to get there. After some little researching on airplane

ticket sites, depending on when you would go, it could cost anywhere from around $400 to close

to $1,000 for a one-way ticket to Barcelona.

Around this time of year, there weather seems to be similar to ours. They low

temperature for this time of year is around 13 degrees Celsius which is approximately 55 degrees

Fahrenheit. Temperatures can reach up to 20 degrees Celsius which is approximately 68 degrees

Fahrenheit. They experience sunshine, cloudiness and showers. There winters, however, do not

get as cold as ours do. In December and January, the lows will be in the 40s (Fahrenheit).1

There are two official languages of Barcelona. One being Spanish. The second official

language is Catalan. They speak this language in Catalonia. Which is the part country of Spain

that Barcelona is in. Catalan is only spoken in Catalonia, however most people that live in

Barcelona are able to speak both Spanish and Catalonia. To my surprise, most people from

Barcelona are able to understand English as well.2

If you are visiting Barcelona, there are many activities for tourists to do. Specifically,

with Barcelona beaches, they have tons of water activities ready for everyone. There are calm

activities, such as paddle boarding. Or for the more adventurous people, they have an activity
called “flyboarding.” It consists of being attached to an aerodynamic board that will shoot you

into the air from under water up to almost 40 feet in the air.3

Barcelona do have things for the more artiste or historical people. Barcelona has many

art museums. They range from older art, 19th century, to more present-day art. They have a few

places that focus on young artists. One of those museums is called the Ab, Galeria D’Art. The

cover all variations of art. The majority of their artists are young and newly established artists. I,

personally, thought that was interesting too read. They are too many places that I know of that

focus on the young person as their sole contributors.4

Most people of Barcelona, and Spain, are Catholic. There are 208 Roman Catholic

churches in Spain. In a recent survey, over 50% of the people of Barcelona identify themselves

are Catholic. About 20% of the Barcelona people not religious at all. However, Islam is the

fastest growing religion in the Barcelona, but specifically Spain as well. Even though only 4% of

the population practice Islam, it is thought that the people who practice Islam are more faithful

than the ones of Catholicism. More simply, Islam followers practice their religion more actively

than those who call themselves Catholic.5

Overall, the Barcelona activities for tourist seems like there is something for everyone.

They have so much more that would have taken forever to go over. Much more than in the 4

minute or 2-page limit for the assignment. They have things like mountain climbing, night clubs,

activities for kids, shopping and so on. On some sites, you are able to select routes that someone

may want to take to get the most out of their experience. In conclusion, Barcelona seems like a

great and fascinating culture and place to be. It seems like anybody who visits would have a

great time. Granted being a resident of Barcelona might get old and not exciting, after research

into things around them, there is always a something fun around the corner to do.
