Research Title : The Effect Of An English Tv Series With A Bimodal Subtitle On Students’ Vocabulary Acquisition.

Section Summary
Introduction The improvement of learners’ vocabulary can be facilitated through the use of a variety of
different teaching strategies and forms of media. A movie is one of the media that is
frequently utilized in the process of instructing students in English language skills. Students
were interested in following the lesson, and visual cues in movies helped them deduce the
meaning of words . Movies and their additional features, such as subtitles, contribute to
constructing an effective learning environment, and students were interested in following the
lesson.
Objective/Significance The purpose of this research was to determine whether students' vocabulary improved due to
watching a seven-part English television series with an English subtitle.
Methods and Instrument in this work, a quantitative approach with an experimental design was used. The study used a
post test nonequivalent-group design, and the data were collected using a group design that
consisted of two groups, each of which underwent a pre-test, treatment, and post-test.
Result and Discussion the result of the study demonstrated the use of bimodal subtitles successfully expanded the
students’ vocabulary significantly.
Research Title : The Difference between the Effectiveness of Authentic and Pedagogical Films in Learning Vocabulary among Iranian
EFL Students

Introduction One of the important parts or perhaps the most difficult part of learning a second or foreign
language is learning vocabulary. Unlike learning grammar which is rule-based, learning
vocabulary is all about remembering. Recently, several Iranian researchers have noticed the
effectiveness of using movies as useful instructional objectives especially for learning
vocabulary. and investigate the relationship between improving listening skills and movie
viewing.
Objective/Significance This study tried to investigate the effectiveness of authentic and pedagogical films with
English and Persian subtitles in learning vocabulary. Moreover, the role of these two types of
subtitles and the films with no subtitles were investigated.
Methods and Instrument To conduct the study using quantitative research, 30 Iranian EFL students were selected based
on the results of an Oxford Placement Test and were assigned in two experimental groups as
authentic and pedagogical groups. The students were given twelve sessions as treatment.
Then, the researcher administered a post-test at the end of the treatment period. The post-test
was a multiple-choice test with 25 items. To answer the research questions statistical analysis
was performed.
Result and Discussion The findings of this study show that films can make the students active and can also decrease
the anxiety among the students. As a result, it can help students to acquire the foreign
language more easily. In addition, the results of other studies also show that using subtitles are
effective and helpful in learning a foreign language.
Research Title : EFL Students’ Improvement through the Reflective YouTube Video Project

Section Summary
Introduction YouTube’s contribution to EFL learning has made it an enticing learning media for students
in this millennial era. YouTube created an engaging atmosphere for learning English. so that
the reason the study indicated improvements in other areas such as the development of
teamwork skills, the ability to manage stress, technological ability, and creativity. Especially
in delivering information and enriching knowledge either the knowledge that was related to
English learning or other types of knowledge in a broader scope.
Objective/Significance The first objective was to reveal how factors in higher education affected the YouTube video
project. The second objective was to provide evidence showing students’ self-improvement in
EFL learning via the YouTube video project.
Methods and Instrument This study employed a qualitative content analysis. The data collected in this study was
obtained from seventy-nine non-English speaking students in higher education. Data was
collected via reflections written by the participating students. The content of these reflections
was then synthesized and subsequently analyzed. The analysis indicated that six factors
influenced the reflection process of the YouTube video project. These were as follows:
behaviour, competencies, beliefs, environment, identity, and mission.
Result and Discussion The findings revealed that factors that impacted the students’ the reflective process were:
behavior, competencies, beliefs, the individual mission for future action, individual awareness
of self-identity, and the influence of their surrounding environment. Additional findings
revealed significant improvements in other areas such as the ability to navigate group work,
creativity in delivering information, mental management skills – in relation to task enjoyment,
technology literacy, and general knowledge.
