Case Study no. 1
Questions
1. In what ways are Sheena’s customers most likely to judge the quality of her lawn care
services?
Customers evaluate the quality of a service provider based on the output, cost, punctuality,
and customer service. It implies that Sheena's business must perform well in certain areas in
order to satisfy its clients. A good customer service representative attends to and successfully
meets the needs of the client. Additionally, the cost should be acceptable given the quality of
the service. Also, keep in mind that punctuality is important; in light of the arrangements made,
she must always arrive on time.
2.  Sheena is the operations manager of her business. Among her responsibilities are
forecasting, inventory management, scheduling, quality assurance, and maintenance.

(a) What kinds of things would likely require forecasts?

Using the historical data that is now accessible, forecasting involves estimating and making
predictions about data. Budget allocation in a corporation is projected through forecasting. This
is often determined by the demand for the products and services it provides in relation to the
cost of production. Sheena must predict her future earnings and contrast them with her
anticipated expenses over a given time span. Sheena has had to pay her new employees,
which is a separate expense from the one she incurs each time she provides a service. She
should also know how much money she expects to make this year. She should look for ways
to lower her expenses and raise her revenue in order to fulfill that objective. Additionally,
forecasting will be useful as an operations manager.
(b) What inventory items does Sheena probably have? Name one inventory decision she has to
make periodically.
Seeds, fertilizer, rakes, weed eaters, sod cutters, weed killers, and other chemicals, as well as
lawn mowers, lawn mower blades, lubricant, gas, and oil, could all be found in his inventory.
Sheena ought to think about getting a second lawn mower since her company appears to be
growing for the year. She will also use more lawnmowers because she has hired more staff.
As long as it fits within the company's budget, additional goods should also be taken into
account.
(c) What scheduling must she do? What things might occur to disrupt schedules and cause
Sheena to reschedule?
The amount of personnel available on the preferred date and the number of customers
requesting the service will determine when lawns will be mowed. Sheena would first book the
customer's service appointment for the customer's yard. Second, Sheena will plan how many
personnel are needed as well as which employees will accompany her to each customer.
Third, the customers' regular lawn mowing service timetable. Fourth, the equipment
maintenance schedule and inventory control.
(d) How important is quality assurance to Sheena’s business? Explain.
The level of quality control will decide Sheena's devoted clientele. If Sheena's company
provides good service, her clients will be happy and rehire her. If the firm is successful and
receives positive feedback from its current clients, it may attract more customers and improve
its credibility. On the other side, if she is unable to do quality work, the clients' trust and
confidence in her would be lost.
(e) What kinds of maintenance must be performed?
To provide a high-quality service, the operation's equipment must be maintained. Accordingly,
it is important to regularly check equipment to determine whether it needs to be oiled or
replaced.
Sheena should make sure to check the expiration dates if she maintains fertilizer in her
inventory.
Additionally, all businesses are required to keep their facilities clean.
I would also advise Sheena to keep her business's reputation positive.
3. What are some of the trade-offs that Sheena probably considered relative to:
a) Working for a company instead of for herself?
b) Expanding the business?
She will have to labor for others if she is employed by a corporation, but if he expands her

then she will be in charge of her own business.

Starting a business was simpler for her than getting a job in a company, which is quite
competitive.

Although she needs to increase her quality in the workplace, she has aspired
qualification.
4. The town is considering an ordinance that would prohibit putting grass clippings at the curb for
pickup because local landfills cannot handle the volume. What options might Sheena consider
if the ordinance is passed? Name two advantages and two drawbacks of each option.
