CHAPTER 1

This chapter presents the Introduction, Background of the study, Statement of

the Problem, Hypothesis, Significance of the Study, Scope and Delimitation and
Definition of Terms.

INTRODUCTION

Local products refer to foods and other agricultural products that are grown or
produced, processed, and then sold inside a specific area, as well as products that are
produced within a short distance of where it is consumed.
Imported products are goods that are brought from one country into another.
These items enable countries to buy resources that they can't generate on their own
country or manufacture cheaper and efficiently. Imported goods enables different
countries to supply nonexistent, scarce, high cost, or low-quality certain products or
services, to its market with products from other countries.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In the past decade, the call to support local businesses by patronizing locally
sourced and sold products over those that are imported and sold at corporate chains
has gained momentum. Countries are most likely to import goods or services that their
domestic industries cannot produce as efficiently or cheaply as the exporting country.
They also import raw materials or commodities that are not available within their
borders. For example, most countries import oil because they cannot produce it
domestically or cannot produce enough to meet demand. There is always a mindset for
most Filipinos that imported products are good and will last longer. This has been a
habitual perspective to many. Though it is half-true and half-false, this will
change depending on the product and its origin. Filipinos believe that foreign products
are superior to local products. However, not all foreign products are authentic and worth
the money paid for them. Our country has local products that are worth buying, and if
Filipinos believe that, they are not only supporting our own, but they are also providing
opportunities to our locals which make a living out of it.
Hence, the researchers conducted a study that will examine the perception of the
Grade 10 students of Arellano University Pasig on buying local and imported products.

our Local Government Unit (LGU) in planning programs that will encourage Filipinos to
patronize and buy our products. This will also provide more job opportunities to our
fellow and empower local businesses in the country.

4. Future Researches
This can be used for future studies by researchers or students. The study can be
used as a guide in conducting further researches. Future researchers may increase the
number of respondents and use a different research tool.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The study explored the perception of Grade 10 students of Arellano University

Pasig in buying local and imported products. The study was conducted from April 11 to
22, 2022 with respondents among the Grade 10 students of Arellano University Pasig.

accepted the invitation of the researchers to participate. They answered the
questionnaire on scheduled days of the week and on their most convenient time.
