Method Statement

(Manual Dismantling of External Climbing Tower Crane)

1.0 SCOPE:

The Purpose of this method statement is to ensure the safe Manual dismantling of
External Tower Crane from 30 mtrs height rom inside building.
This method statement is applicable to all activities related to Tower Cranes at the
Project site.

2.0 TOWER CRANE DETAILS:

Height : Present 30 meters.
Jib : 50 meters.
Location : JIIMER, Karaikal, Tamilnadu

3.0 DETAILS OF THE PROJECT:

4.0 PURPOSE OF METHOD STATEMENT:

The Purpose of this method statement is to outline and ensure the procedure to execute the
dismantling of External Tower Crane works as per the scope defined.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:
5.1 The Plant Manager/ Engineer Shall be accountability to: -
a) Ensure that the works are carried out as per methods submitted.
b) Inform the safety department, when the External tower crane is going to be
dismantling and during dismantling nominated EHS officer shell be available and check
all the safety major.
c) Ensure that observed observations must be complete before start the dismantling.
d) Dismantling activity mast be carried out by authorized operator and he will work
under the supervision of experienced engineer.
e) Ensure that all deployed workers are medically fit.
f) Ensure all tools which is required for dismantling are in good condition.
g) Toolbox talks training to be given to all deployed workers by the engineer in
presence of P&M and EHS In charge.
h) P&M in charge will sign the work permit and start the activity when it became
authorized by EHS incharge.

6. The EHS officer
1. Advice the necessary safety parameters before starting the dismantling work of tower
crane.
2. Check the competency certificate of operator authorized by TPI and their medical
certificate.
3. Induction of concern deployed personnel.
4. Check the issued work permit and all document required for lifting and their manufacturer
and third party certificate.
5. If EHS in charge of URC found any discrepancy, in document or during physical inspection,
immediately stop the activity and inform to EHS coordinate.

7.0 DETAILS OF MANPOWER AND RESOURCES:

8.0 METHOD OF WORK EXECUTION:

a) After getting clearance from Client and physical verification, work will be
Proceed.
b) All Overhead and underground cables and other facilities shall be identified
and isolated.
c) All records related to the inspections and tests done shall be entered.
d) All personnel involved in erection work should be totally familiar with and confirm
to safe operation
e) The safe system of tower crane dismantling work should be suitably
communicated to all those are involved in dismantling through TBT and training.
f) Establish exclusion zone around the tower crane and cordon off the working
area to stop the unauthorized entry in exclusion zone and persons will be
deployed for warn people.
g) The External Tower Crane dismantling task will be briefed on method
statement before starting the works (Task briefing) to all deployed person.
h) Local Weather and Wind Speed forecast should be obtained and dismantling
should only be take place if the wind speed is within the limit quoted in the
manufacturer's instruction for dismantling / Telescoping/erection.(not more than
10m/s).
k) Nuts, bolts, spanners and other items shall be secured properly to avoid falling
from height.
l) Following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a must...

 Safety helmet with chin strip.


 Full body safety harness and it should be correctly connected to structure.
 Fall arrestor with rope shall be fixed on tower Crane to climb up and down safely
 Safety shoes as required.
 Area Precaution
1. Surround area barricaded properly with caution and unauthorized entry.
2. Wind speed not more than 13m/s.
3. Conduct TBT and records.
4. Paramedical staff should be available.
5. Safety person should be available.
6. Before starting the work, authorize the work permit from URC.
7. Emergency vehicle with driver should be available near the work location.

9.0 1. .Sequence of work for dismantling of mast is as per below


procedure

1. Mobilization and preparation of fabricated derrick and chain pulley:

Crane will be taken to the minimum level by removing 1 mast sections.


Then Derrick and chain pulley will be shifted on the top of the terrace with
the help of the tower crane. Derrick will be joined as per the required
length and will be lifted just beside the counter jib. Guy ropes will be
tightening from all six sides of the building. U clamps and 13mm wire
rope will be used for this purpose. 5T capacity chain pulley will be fixed
on the top the derrick for removing 05 nos. counter weights. Pictures
attached for understanding the procedure.

2. Removal of lifting hook and hoisting wire rope:


Hoist rope will be removed and lifting hook will be kept on the top of the terrace.

3. Removal counter weights:


02 nos. 1.5T and 03 nos. 2.6T counter weights will be removed with the help of the
hoisting wire rope and one 5T capacity pulley fixed on the top of the derrick. Counter
weights will be removed with the help of tower crane hoisting mechanism as shown in
the photograph. One by one all five counter weights will be taken down to the ground.
Only one 2.6T counter weight will be kept on the counter jib for balancing of main jib.
4. Fixing of Derrick on the terrace at 30M radius:
Derrick will be fixed on the terrace with the same procedure for removal of main jib.
On 5T chain pulley will be fixed on the top of the derrick. Photo attached for reference.

5. Removal of Main 50M jib sections:


After fixing of derrick at 35M radius main jib will be positioned and will be lifted by
chain pulley as shown on the photograph. Jib will be kept on the terrace. Sections will
be separated one by one with the help of derrick and chain pulley.

6. 1st 6M section will be fitted:


One 6M jib section will be fixed again for taking removing all jib sections on to the
ground level. One by one all sections will be taken down.

7. Balance counter weight removal:


Now after removal of all jib sections the last balance 2.6T counter weight also will be
taken down with the procedure described on clause no.3

Now balalnce materials like mast sections, counter jib, cat head, Slewing ring, climbing cage
will be removed by self erecting procedure using hydraulic system and at the end using a 25T
mobile crane or F16 hydra.
