5 Operation
The pass-through washing machine for boxes is an universal industrial washing
machine. The machine consists of four relatively-differentiated units:
- operational tunnel
- washing section
- rinsing section
- box transport section

5.1 Operational tunnel

The operational tunnel consists of two sections /washing and rinsing/ and an in
feed and out feed table.
It is closed on both sides with mobile anti-spraying polyethylene curtains which
do not obstruct the movement of the boxes.
The tunnel is equipped with removable side covers that facilitate the cleaning and
maintenance.

Caution: Before commissioning the machine, adjust the tunnel height in

conformity with the boxes to be washed! Check within the work tunnel zone
for any out-of-place or uncharacteristic objects!

5.2 Washing section

This is the section for the main washing of the boxes with detergent pre-heated to
a certain temperature. A collector with adjustable nozzles makes sure the boxes
are sprayed on all sides. The washing solution then drains through the removable
sieve into the tank and is thus cleaned as the dirt and particles remain in the
sieve.

The main washing section consists of:

- Centrifugal pump, 3 kW, 30 m3/ hour at a pressure of 3 bar
- Tank for the washing solution, capacity approx. 300 ltr.
- Sensor, for monitoring the min. tank level
- Overflow in the tank for monitoring the max. level
- Ball valve 1 ¼ ” in the drainage pipe for emptying the tank
- Sieve with a mesh size of 1.5 mm for catching the dirt
- Collector with a total of 36 nozzles for spraying the washing solution
- Ball valve ¾” for filling the tank
- Heating element – 2 x 10 kW

10

MANUAL

5.3 Rinsing section

In that section, the items are rinsed by getting sprayed with clean warm water
(min 85°C) coming out through nozzles. The amount of water can be adjusted
very precisely using a dosing ball-valve. The rinsing water flows automatically in-
to the tank and thus refreshes the washing solution.

Automatic rinse section consists of:

- hose nipple ½” for the automatic supply of water
- dosing ball-valve ½” for adjusting the precise amount of rinsing water
- collector with 10 nozzles for spraying the rinsing water

5.4 Box transport section

The pass-through washing machine is fitted with a rust-resisting stainless steel
chain with welded sections. A geared motor installed on the output side provides
the drive power for the transport system. The boxes are placed with the bottom
facing upwards. When feeding them into the machine, observe the required dis-
tance in between determined by the leading plated welded to the chain.
In order to protect the boxes from damages in case of possible blocking, a safety
connector is mounted on the conveyor leading shaft.

perature in the range from 40°C to 65°C and if the pollution is mainly from protein
– between 35°C and 45°C.
Caution: Do not place your hands in the tank! There is real danger from
burning.

6.2 Conveyor speed

Speed on transportation is 250-300 crates per hour (depending how dirty they
are).Adjustment of the speed by frequency regulator.

6.3 Height of Hold-Down Plate

The adjustment of the hold-down plate prevents the lifting of the crates. When the
washing machine is to be used for the washing of crates and boxes of different
size, the height of the hold-down plate must be adjusted before each change of
containers.

12
PASS-THROUGH WASHING MACHINE FOR BOXES INSTRUCTION

8.2 Lubrication
In order to guarantee proper operation and a long service life of the machine, cer-
tain components of the washing machine must be lubricated and checked.

Regular checks must be performed to determine the oil level in the gear motor.

If a slight amount of oil is lost - refill with oil in accordance with the in-
structions of the manufacturer.
If a considerable amount of oil is lost - examine the bolt and the filling
screw and tighten them.

Also the drive roller chains should be lubricated with a lubricant periodically (see
Project drawing).

8.3 Tensioning of the Transport Chain

Check regularly that there is sufficient tension in the chain (see Project drawing).
If necessary, the chain should be tightened as follows:

• Switch off the machine power supply by turning the MAIN SWITCH to the
„OFF“ position.
• Loosen the security nut of the tensioner (see Project drawing).
• Tighten the chain by tightening the tension nut.
• Tighten the security nut..

Caution! Do not tighten exessively the chain as this shall influence the
work of the safety connector! A sign that the chain is tightened is that the
plates welded onto its links cannot rotate either forward or backward.

Caution! Do not come into contact with the moving chain!

8.4 Adjusting the Safety Connector

The safety connector is positioned on the gear motor shaft (see Project drawing).
It serves to protect the servicing personnel from injuries and the crates from
damages in case of jamming. Protect the connector from water and moisture in
order to secure its correct functioning.

First check that the transport chain can move freely. If not – remove the cause
(e.g. the wash product may have jammed).

Now restart the machine. If the transport chain is now running normally with load,
then the safety connector does not require adjustment.

If the transport chain shaft still does not rotate, adjust the safety connector by re-
moving the panel and releasing the security of the regulation nut (see diagram 3).

16

Pic. 3: Safety connector

•Turning the regulation nut clockwise tightens the safety connector.

•Turning the regulation nut anticlockwise loosens the safety connector.

Caution!: Only ever turn the regulation nut in steps of 30º!

The safety connector is adjusted correctly when the heaviest products can be
transported safely.

When the setting adjustments have been completed, the safety connector regula-
tion nut has to be tightened, and all the panels which have been removed must
be reassembled.

Caution: Tighten the chain in such a way as to make it possible to hold the
chain by hand.
