    Definition of deep foundations
    In which the depth of the foundation is very large in
    comparison to its width.
    Generally with a foundation depth to width ratio (D/B)
    exceeding five.
    Which are not constructed by ordinary method of open pit
    excavations.
    Which are provided when the expected loads from
    superstructure cannot be supported on shallow
    foundations.
    Definition of deep foundations
    Which are used when there are weak soils near the
    surface or when loads are very high.
    Which derive their support from deeper soils or bedrock.

    So, it transfer the load to the ground partly by bottom of the


    foundation (end bearing) and partly by the side friction
    (skin friction) with the soil around the foundation along its
    embedment in the soil.
