ABSTRACT

The industrial internship at Samarth Engineering works . In this workshop different types of
Jobs are prepare as the customer requirement .

Quality is also a very important aspect in mechanical engineering course.

because practical knowledge are also required for student life not only theory knowledge. There
are so many times west differences between book theory knowledge and actual practical
implementation. AIM of internship is develop our designing skill, production skill and learn
about CNC and make a experience in our field.
My work is production of CNC machines and learn about Quality of CNC machines.

BASIC ELEMENT OF CNC
MACHINES

13
❖ BASIC ELEMENT

1. Programme:

This is the computer input that is done with a keyboard when trying to tell the machine to perform
a functional control code. This controls code are of two sets, G-codes and M-codes.

M-codes are miscellaneous machine commands that do not command axis motion. Whilst G-cold
are used to command specific movements of the machine, such as machine moves or drilling
function

2. Input Devices:

With a CNC system being controlled and managed through a specialty system, it is necessary to
have an effective way of coordinating the pre-programmed data with the designed system.

These input devices include flash disks, compact discs, and other modern data transfer components.

3. Machine control unit:

The heart of the CNC system is a high value logic control panel consisting of the data processing
Unit and a control loop unit.

The DPU component allows for effective reception and decoding of the programs.

14
4. Driving system:

Another critical component of a CNC machine is the driving system that responds to the pre-

programmed instructions by allowing for the cutting of the end products into shape and design.

In its most simple form, the driving system consists of several control motors whose rotation

determines the movement of the cutting spindle.

5. Feedback device:

For a CNC system to operate effectively, there is need to relay feedback about the various processes

during and after every process is completed. The feedback devices include linear transducers and dire

position scales and encoders.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT

17
Drilling machine:
• Drilling machine is also called as a drill press is used
for producing holes in hard substance.

• The drill is held in a rotating spindle and is fed into

the workpiece, which is usually clamped in a vise
resting on the table

• Drill presses are mainly used for enlarging holes with

high accuracy.

• High speed, high output, easy to operate, high

flexibility, low maintenance cost is these is

advantages.

2. Band saw machine:

• Bandsaw machines is a power saw with a long, sharp

blade consisting of a continuous band of

Toothed metal stretched between two or more

wheels to cut materials.

• The band saw shapes material by sawing

straight, round or cutting curve.

• Metal, wood, plastic and other materials are cut by

band saw.

• Create faster and more accurate cuts compare to

jigsaw.

• Bandsaw are one of the safest tools.

• Bandsaw provide precise cutting FIG 3.4 BAND SAW MACHINE

19
3. Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding:

• TIG is an arc welding process that uses a non-

consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld.
• The weld area and electrode are protected from
oxidation or other atmosphere contamination by aninert
shielding gas.
• TIG welding is most used to weld thin section of
stainless steel and non-ferrous metals
Such as aluminum, magnesium, and copper alloys.
• TIG welding is comparatively more complex and
difficult to master.
• It is significantly slower than most other welding FIG 3.5 TIG WELDING
techniques.

4. Electric tapping machines:

• The machine adopts servo drive control, with

intelligent torque protection, instead of the traditional
Lathe, drilling machine or manual tapping limitations.
• The high-definition touch screen is simple and
flexible.
• It can realize the vertical and horizontal work of
complex and heavy workpiece, locate quickly, and
Process accurately.
• Stepless speed change, manual, automatic, linkage
three modes of work, whatever you choose.
• Repeated positioning fast, tapping speed, high
production efficiency.

QUALITY MEASURING
INSTRUMENTS

22
1. Roughness Tester:

• A roughness tester is used to quickly and accurately

determine the surface texture or surface roughness of a
material.
• A roughness tester shows the measured roughness
depth (Rz) as well as the mean roughness value (Ra) in
microns (m).
• Induction method with diamond sensor

• The roughness tester is a portable measuring

instrument for determination of surface roughness
according to Ra, Rz, Ro, and Rt in just one device
• The small roughness tester is especially designedfor
fast measuring of roughness
FIG 4.1 ROUGHNESS TESTER

2. Thread plug gauge:

• A thread gauge is used to check the dimension of a

specific thread form angle, pitch diameter.
• Thread plug gauge are used to check internal threads,
whereas ring gauges are used to check external threads
• Each gauge comprises of two parts: a GO gauge
And NO-GO gauge
• Both parts should be used to check the thread.

FIG 4.2 THREAD GAUGE

23
3. Vernier caliper: This instruments used to measure the dimension of an object , generally by
Placing two movable points of the instruments across the object or span to be measured.

4. Micrometer: This device incorporating a calibrated screw widely used for accurate measurement of
Component in mechanical engineering and machining as well as most mechanical trades along with

Other metrological.

FIG 4.3 VENIER CALIPER AND MICROMETER

5. Dial indicator:

• The dial indicators can be defined as the small measuring instruments that can be used in several

mechanical means to measure a certain deviation of a mechanical component.

FIG 4.4 DIAL INDICATOR

24
6. Vernier dial caliper:

• The dial caliper is a very easy and reliable precision tool and this will show how to properly measure

Parts and how to read the thousandth This tool is usually use

FIG 4.5 VERNIER DIAL CALIPER

25
❖ Different assembly parts of CNC Router:

1. Frame (supports the machine):

• An assembly of rigid members (of which at least one is a multi- force member) intended to be a stationary
structure for supporting a load

• The frame supports the machine and provides rigidity to resist cutting

Forces.

• For larger routers, there may be stand with legs or a welded base.

FIG 4.6 FRAME

2. Table

• CNC router table can be made from many materials. Generally tables of router made from mild steel.

• CNC router table may be bare, but often they will have feature to facilities workholding.

• Table are used to hold the workpiece and they attached by a chuck.

FIG 4.7 TABLE

26 | P a g e
3. Spindle (Heart of any CNC machine):

• Some say the spindle is the heart of any CNC machines.

• It certainly plays a major role in setting the performance potential of the machine.

• Generally, the term spindle implies a spinning axis.

• In the context of a router, the spindle is the shaft upon which the variously shaped

after heads are attached.

FIG 4.8 SPINDLE

4. Ways (sliding ways):

• The ways or slides are the motion tracks that anables X-Y-Z movements.
• It is form these (and a stiff frame and good quality lead screws) that any router derives its precision…
Or lack of it.
• The most common ways are precision-ground stainless steel rods on which either plain bushes
Recirculating ball collars run.
• An axis requires at least two such rods – and the further apart those rods are, the more precise the axis
Axis of motion.

FIG 4.9 SLIDING WAYS

27 | P a g e
5. Axis drives (converts rotary motion):

• The axis drives convert the output of the stepper motors that drives the machine from rotary to linear
Motion.
• Lower cost machines often use toothed or timing belts for this, while that may sound less than
Optimal toothed belts have been used in robotics positioning system in this way for decades and can
Be durable, when kept clean.
• More expensive machines tend to have recirculating ball screws. This offer the advantages of freer
motion and lower hysteresis.
• But they pose the same contamination and wear issues that similar system in the sliding ways suffer,
So cleanliness is essential for long machine life.

CONCLUSION

• Production engineer job is to check how the product is being made and whether it is being

Manufacturing correctly or not.

• For that, organization should have process and standard to be followed which need to be improved

on a periodic basis.

• It concentrates mainly on the quality of product\service that we are providing to the customer during
Or after implementation of soft.
