8th Chapter 1 - Transport in Plants
8th Chapter 1 - Transport in Plants
Learning Objectives:
*identify different tissues and organs in plants and state their functions
* Critically evaluate the structure of root system and state their function.
Introduction of topic:
Further students will be shown the following video and will be asked to correlate with their
prior discussion
Pedagogical strategies:
Linguistic:
1. Transport in plants
2. The conducting or transporting tissues
3. Water absorption by the roots
4. Transpiration
5. Importance of minerals
Spatial:
Logical:
To enhance the level of understanding of students they can be asked logical questions like,
1. Why do new cells are formed and also differentiate into specialized cells?
Enrichment / Project:
Extend/Elaborate:
Annual rings vary in thickness due to environmental factors. What kinds of environmental factors
during the year might influence tree growth? Suppose that during a ten-year period rainfall in a region
increased each spring by ten percent. During the next ten-year period, rainfall decreased each spring by
ten percent in the same region. What effect do you think this weather pattern would have on the annual
rings of a 20-year old tree?
