DEVELOPING MANAGERIAL

SKILLS AND ORGANIZATION

Aaron Charles P. Estrada
MODULE ACTIVITY 1
Make an illustration or a drawing of a good manager. You may include all the skills and values you
want an excellent manager to possess.
Processing
A good manager is the brain of the team. He must be knowledgeable and
keen to tackle issues and solve problems, as this is among the most
important aspects of a management position, whether it is resolving an
employee conflict or dealing with a client crisis. A good manager, in addition
to being, accepts responsibility for any problems that arise.
Risk Taker
Taking managerial risks is an important aspect of strategic management.
Managers must take risks to improve competitive advantage and
performance, which is often difficult in an uncertain environment. Risk is
accepted by managers as a cost of opportunity and innovation. Managers
know that something won't happen if they can't accept the risk that a
project will fail. However, the level of risk can be reduced if they can perform
all possible calculations and evaluate which options are best before moving
on to the next step.
Delegation
Effective delegation not only frees up your time but also develops your
team's professionalism, gets you ready to manage bigger teams, and
motivates team members to work harder. A crucial management skill to
develop throughout your career is delegation. Your job as a manager will be
much harder if you don't know how to assign projects and tasks.
Financial Skills
Financial skills are an essential part of any manager's
basic toolkit. Managers must understand the financial
consequences of their choices and how to use financial
data to improve the performance of their company.

Listening Skills
Being able to listen to your team is crucial when
talking about the traits of a good manager. Employees
appreciate the feeling that their thoughts and
observations are valued. If your teams aren't willing to
share their insights, you should ask for them in order to
accomplish that. Make a deliberate effort to act on
valuable feedback when you receive it. This will
demonstrate to your staff that they can influence their
workplace by speaking up.
Time Management Skills

Time management is another important aspect of

being a successful manager. Managers who practice
efficient time management are more likely to deliver
their products or service on time. Good time
management also implies that a manager can solve
issues that arise without disrupting day-to-day
operations. Time management is also important for
prioritizing your day, ensuring you have time to
communicate with your employees, and achieving
weekly goals.

Organization

If you aren't organized in your work, it's likely that the

staff you supervise won't be either. A manager must
efficiently and effectively balance a variety of tasks
because they wear many hats. If your work and
delegation are not properly organized, tasks may
accumulate, paperwork may go missing, and valuable
time may be wasted trying to locate materials that
ought to be simple to find.
Good Communication Skills
Effective communication is a skill that all
managers must have. This includes not only
communicating job responsibilities and
expectations but also listening to your team and
collaborating with them to achieve results
within their role. This will also aid in establishing
rapport with your employees and empower
them to be more productive in their workflow
because they will know they can get help when
they need it. A good manager should also make
it clear to their employees that they can discuss
anything work-related on a regular basis.
MODULE ACTIVITY 2
At least one scenario in each skill, as
explained above, highlights the
potential of a good manager.
Technical Skills:

Managers must have a basic understanding of programs related to their

industry as well as Microsoft Office, Adobe, Google Docs, and any other
pertinent office suites. Additionally, depending on the sector, knowledge of
data entry, popular web publishing platforms, HR software, and scheduling
tools may be necessary. Through the creation of training materials,
important processes can be documented, product and service descriptions
can be created, and managers can inform upper management of the status
of their departments and projects. All require the ability to communicate
complex ideas and processes in writing with clarity and conciseness. For
example, let’s take an individual who works in the sales department and has
highly developed sales skills achieved through education and experience in
his department or the same departments in different organizations. Because
of his skills, this person can be a perfect solution to becoming a sales
manager. This is the best solution because he has excellent technical skills
related to the sales department.
Conceptual Skills:
A Social Media Manager works for a marketing company that focuses on
the food industry. Several of the company's creative directors have
struggled to translate marketing and promotional ideas into campaigns
that produce a return on investments. This issue has been attributed to a
lack of knowledge about the food industry among creative support staff
and directors. The Social Media Manager is tasked with training creative
directors using his conceptual abilities and experience in social media
promotion. This manager schedules time for each of the creative
directors to work directly in a food factory with one of the executive
team members at that factory and in the food parks for several days. In
this way, The social media manager could come up with a way to
immerse the company's creative directors in the food industry to gain
new insights into how to best market its product by thinking creatively
and delivering an innovative solution.
Human or Interpersonal Skills:
A manager is working for a startup company
that makes smartwatches that connect to
social media for content sharing. Since the
manager is currently working with many
inexperienced team members, it requires him
to provide coaching and support to his team to
effectively market their product.
