The Capstone is a unique and demanding challenge, in completing it, what did you learn about your

subject? Your skill set? Yourself?

My capstone was unique from the things people usually do and I have gained some skills and learnt new
things. For one thing I have learnt how to use a 3d printer better, or at least I know how it works now
(kind of), I am have learnt that not everything always goes according to plan, sometimes you have to
improvise, which I did quite a bit during the making of this project and I am still very happy with the
outcome, I am usually very picky with thigs like this, for example if its not perfect and exactly as I want it
I am not happy with it. But my project may not look how I expected it to but it looks almost as good and
In the future I will definitely alter it so it looks equally as good.

How is your project relevant to you, the school or community at large?

I wanted to create something that people don’t usually think of making. Creating something that you
would want to own but never bothered to create. I wanted to show them that making It is not all that
hard and you can use it for multiple things as well, for example I will be wearing this mask for the
crucible which is something we are going to do in drama class. Its not only a cosmetic it can also be used
to play airsoft and maybe paintball. Usually people would see such a creation and say that it would be
too much work and don’t even try, but I wanted to show them that it may be a lot of work but it is not as
hard as they think even if you did not own a 3d printer you could always buy a skull mask for very cheap
and alter it (cut the jaw and sides to make it look like as you want). I want people to see it and hopefully
inspire them to create something that people wouldn’t usually make but would want to own.

How did you demonstrate the six core competencies throughout this project. (See attached core
competency sheet).

For the core competencies I will make it into bullet points.

Personal Awareness and responsibility. I believe that I showed “self determination” and “self regulation”:

There were a bunch of times where I really did not want to do my capstone because I was bored/playing
video games, or whatever I was doing but still I made myself stop doing what I was doing or get up and
start working on my capstone, and once I saw progress, I gained motivation. I also had goals assigned to
myself the week before for example I had decided that I would finish everything regarding the mask in
the next 3 weeks and so I did. Sure, I had to push myself to work sometimes before I didn’t want to but
that just shows self determination, I believe that everyone needs some self determination.

For Social responsibility, I did “Solving problems in peaceful ways”.

I had a problem during my capstone which was how to create the mask initially and my dad really did not
want to use the 3d printer for it because he did not want to leave the 3d printer on for 25 hours, but I
really did and without arguing I tried explaining him that I have no other way of making it. I had searched
on amazon and eBay to find similar masks like that, but I did not find any I showed him that I did not find
any and ensured him that I would be on top of the printer the entire time, and so I made him agree with
me and he let me print it. I want to say that I am very happy because if I didn’t go through all the work to
show him that I wouldn’t have had that beautiful mask created, and I am so proud of myself for that.
For critical thinking I did “analyze and critique” and “develop and design”

Multiple times during the creation of my project I had been concerned that it will not look as I want it.
That might be because I am very picky but regardless of that i think that my pickiness was good for the
project. For example, I had the idea of instead of cotton rope that I should’ve used foam, but I am glad
that I realized that it will definitely not look as it should. I am very happy for that change, and I am still
not afraid to change something that I don’t like even days before my interview. Talking about the hair,
that whole thing is precisely my design, I was looking through amazon for what to use and found this
plastic wig cap, took it and painted it black, then added the hair and you can’t even tell that it Is a wig
cap anymore! This for me was a new path to explore, I had the option of attempting to sew the cotton
rope or at the time the foam on the balaclava or figure something else out, and by searching for ideas I
found that cap.

For Creative Thinking I believe I used “generating ideas”

For the creation of the mask, I did not know what to use at first. But my mind went on the 3d printer first
thing. So, I went to my dad and asked him, since we have the printer how about we use it to our
advantage and make this mask instead of finding something similar on amazon and buying, not only
would it be free it would also be way quicker. After some convincing my dad agreed and he also learnt
that his printer is able to make bigger projects like that so I am sure he will use that to his advantage
now.

For communication I believe I showed: “explain/recount and reflect on experiences and

accomplishments” and “acquire interpret, and present information.”

I can reflect on my journey of making this project and am able to explain what I have done precisely and
explain how everything works, I also can even show what I have done by showing specific parts of my
project and talk about them. Since I believe that I am a decent public speaker I believe that I can engage
people of different audiences and make them interested or even invested into my journey of creating
this project

For Personal & and cultural identity I did “personal strength and ability”

I know myself, and I know where and what I am good at and using that to my advantage is one thing that
helped me into succeeding this project, my determination is one very important factor that really helped
me with this and especially my self-determination. Without those two I would have been too lazy to do
this project but would’ve done it anyway, though it wouldn’t have been good. The freedom we get by
doing this project, of even letting us choose what we want to do is one major factor on why I wanted to
really do this project, this is something I really wanted to do, and this project only fueled that want.

What impact if any did your capstone project have.

I want to say that the work I had to put on this capstone project is a lot, which I think gave me an idea of
how it will be out there in the world, and it gave me an opportunity to explore a part of me that I had
never explored, I always wanted to create something like this and this project gave me the opportunity
to do this. I will definitely create more items such as this and I will explore other areas of myself that I
have not yet explored it may not have had that much of an impact towards a specific community but it
had a bigger impact on myself.
Thinking about the whole process and your finished product, what are you most proud of?

Where to start, I am proud of everything I have done and I am grateful for my dads help on this, but if I
had to pick one it would be the hair, I had no clue how to make them and completely improvised the
creation of them, and it ended up looking very good. Yes, the mask arguably looks closer to the original,
but the hair is something I improvised and completes the look. Without the hair this project would look
dull and unfished, but the hair brings life to this project and gives it the look it needed to have,
everything from cutting it to tying it and to burning the top so it looks proper.

What was a difficulty you encountered and how did you solve the problem?

One of the difficulties that I encountered was with the wig cap, I had to find something that would look
accurate to the original and since in game you do not really get a view of how he has attached the hair
and since the game (Escape From Tarkov) tries to be as realistic as possible it would only have some kind
of normal explanation so I tried to find the explanation myself and so I found this wig cap and decided to
get one.

What is one thing about your finished project you wish you could change? Why?

I have said this before and I would change the mask for it, only reason I would change it is because it
simply is not as accurate as the original one since I am trying to make it look as close to the original as
possible, only reason this happened is because the shipping time would’ve been past the deadline of my
capstone project, I will certainly change it and get a different one even after this project is finished but
for the sake of the project I will use the one I have.

What advice would you give to a student who will be completing their capstone next year?

The one thing I can say is to absolutely stay on top of your work, especially your capstone, if you leave
everything till the end not only will you not get the spare block for the last month, but you might just not
graduate and have to take another year, I believe nobody wants to not graduate so that is the one advice
I would give, Stay. On. Top.

What source from your research helped you the most? (or least)

There was one source that said about how people sew, and since I did not sew almost at all during this
project it did not come as useful as I expected it to, I found that pre-emptively since I thought I would be
sewing a lot in this project but it did not come as useful as I expected it to be, but regardless of that
there was a source that talks about how masks were used and how it was used to scare people, that
source may not have helped me but It was the most interesting one to read and initially that is why
people created these skull masks, same as in the game he wears the mask to not only hide his identity
but also to show that if you mess with him you will likely not walk away

What is one thing about your approach to your project that you wish you could change? Why?

Having a plan is always good but I honestly improvised a lot, my plan didn’t go to plan as much as I
wanted it to, it still turned out very good, but I definitely needed a better plan or a backup plan to
support me. My initial plan wasn’t executed as well because I did not have as much time as I wished to
have, but it is not the end of the world since I still believe that my project turned out looking pretty
good.
