population. At pre ent in the year 202 -22QE Assam agricul ure contri utes abou 21.94
percent revenue t the Gro s State D mestic pr duct (GS P). The t tal numb r of of
farmer’ family in Assam is 2741722 as per agriculture c nsus 201 -16. The size of
operati nal holdin s on an a erage is 1.10 hectare and more than 85 p rcent farmers are
either small or marginal with average l nd holding of just ab ut 0.36 h ctares.Agriculture
Census data 2015 16 reveals that the t tal land u der cultivation was 2 .77 lakhs hectres
i.e. 37.95 percen of total eographic l land ar a of Stat .The data thus rev al that
preponderance of mall and fragmented land holdi gs along ith insecu e tenancy are the
major asons forunderdevelopment of riculture s ctor in state. Go ernment of Assam

The sta e is situat d in high rainfall zone with annual averag rainfall o 2297.4 mm. The
state n rmally re eives 2 p rcent of he total rainfall in he winter season (J nuary-
Februar ), 25 per ent in th summer eason (M rch-May), 65 percent in the onsoon
season (June-Sep ember) a d 7 percent in post monsoon season (O tober-Dec mber).

present there are 416 wholesale nd 6855 fertilizer sale points in Assam.
