Analyze some of the survival skills demonstrated by the characters in the film "THE CROODS"

and consider how you would cope or survive if you were placed in the same circumstances.

The Croods are the valley's sole surviving Neanderthal family. They spend practically all of their
time in the cave, only coming out to hunt for food. The cave, as well as the regulations imposed
by Grug, the family's father, have kept them secure. Grug and his wife, Ugga, Grug's mother-in-
law, and the three children reside within the cave. Grug is skeptical when a more advanced
caveman named Guy (Ryan Reynolds) appears on the scene, but it quickly becomes clear that
Guy is right regarding their world's oncoming destruction.

In the movie "THE CROODS" the characters shown many surviving skills, and these are those
surviving skills:

HIDING. It is the time of day when the Croods family always goes into hiding as the sun sets in
order to keep themselves secure from larger monsters who might prey on them at night. [In a
hiding setting; pretend to be out of breath as if an animal run after you; stop then will look at the
camera to explain] -Henryl

SHELTERING. They also take refuge in caves to keep themselves secure from predators as well
as to safeguard their bodies from unknown occurrences. [In a shelter setting; looking sideways
anxiously; then will look at the camera to explain] -Kathlene

HUNTING. It is in order for them to keep their stomachs filled that they constantly hunt
dinosaur eggs and engage in battle with large creatures. [Jokingly fight a chicken to get an egg;
cook the egg; then explain] -Kathlene

FIGHTING. A skill that allows you to use physical aggression to protect yourself or others you
care about, as demonstrated in the film by fighting with the creatures. -John Lloyd

RUNNING. They used this ability not only to hunt, but also to flee from capture. [Run for
seconds; stop, then explain while holding both your knees] -Glea

ESTIMATING DAYLIGHT. Making an educated guess about the amount of daylight. It allows
them to stay vigilant and know if nightfall is approaching so that they can hide before the sun
sets. -John Lloyd

CLOTHING. They cover their bodies with clothes in order to protect themselves from harm.
This was demonstrated when Guy presented the family with a pair of shoes to keep them safe
from sharp things while walking. [Wear a jacket, and shoes. Then explain] -John Lloyd

SIGNALLING. They use this to communicate with one another about whether they are safe or in
danger. This was displayed when Guy hands them a horn thingy with which they can blow to
warn others if they require assistance or to be found if they have become lost. [Anxious as if lost;
will blow a whistle; then proceed in explaining] -Glea
TRAP MAKING. An ability that allows you to catch and devour prey. -Charlize

FIRE MAKING. This ability enabled them to have light at night, cook food, and fend off any
monsters that came close to their camp. -Kathlene

ADAPTING. When an issue arises, they can use this talent to observe their surroundings and
determine the best course of action to take. -Henryl

With all the survival skills shown, if we were in the same situation, we would act like
Guy to survive, as his survival abilities greatly outweigh those of the Croods. Guy is capable of
starting a fire, which is a critical survival skill. Not only will this provide us with illumination at
night, but it will also enable us to prepare food, cleanse water, and defend ourselves against
monsters. (17:04 start or 32:22)
Additionally, to the garments we wear for our lower and upper bodies, he has upgraded
clothing, which includes shoes, which are absolutely important because walking in the wild is
exceedingly dangerous. (49:45 starts)
Then there's his hunting ability; he practices a method of food gathering known as
"trappings." Not only do we require this to eat safely, but we also need it to avoid battling the
prey head on. Following that, it is vital for us to have quick decision-making and creative
thinking abilities when we are out in the wilderness. If we have these qualities while out in the
wilderness, we can easily devise a solution and create innovative tools to survive and overcome
multiple obstacles. (42: 20 starts yung gumagawa sila trap tapos inaakit ung hayop) pwede
mong pabilisan nalang ung clip para kumasya yung buong applicable clip
Furthermore, when we are out in the wild, we should not always rely on our physical
strength but rather use our critical thinking skills like Guy. Because nothing in this world is
permanent, everything will eventually come to an end and necessitate adjustments, which we
must embrace. (1:09:03 yung nalubog sila sa black na espalto then si Grug pinipiliit
makatanggal dun pero di kaya then naisip ni Guy yung akitin ung hayop)
As in the movie, which illustrates Guy's struggle to adapt to a changing world and how
the unfamiliar can be both frightening and fascinating, When Grug realizes that his techniques
are no longer acceptable, he becomes sulky and haughty, and then tries to imitate Guy, behaving
as if he is brimming with ideas, until all of his ideas fail terribly. Grug is symbolically
abandoned, not just because he is incapable of changing with the time, but also because he
refuses to. (1:05:10 yung iniimitate ni Grug si Guy na nag iisip)
Grug is almost a stereotype. We can see that he has the best of intentions, particularly
given the hostile environment of The Croods, but he’s smothering his family. (1:07:15) Ito
yung dialogue: Grug: Its my job to worry… Eep: Dad, you have to stop worrying about us.
Grug: But it’s my job to worry! It’s my job to follow our traditions. Eep: Those traditions
don’t work out here. Grug: They’ve been keeping us alive. Eep: That was not LIVING! It
was “Not Dying”! There’s a difference.
As you can see, no matter how hard the Croods tried, they were unable to retain their
former way of life due to not only the passage of time, but also the changing environment in
which they dwelled. They must see the importance of honing their survival abilities and
developing a plan that works for them now and in the future.
