1. EXT. ON THE RIVERSIDE BASE.DAY.

Benta, Babji and Frank are seated along the riverbank, Frank
is busy chewing while Benta is scrolling her phone.
BENTA.

2. INT. OLUNGA’S UNCLE’S PLACE.DAY.

Olunga’s uncle Ben, opens the plot’s gate and enters,
followed by olunga. He start to walk towards goes to his
house’s door,after olunga has entered and closed the gate.
Olunga stops and looks around.
UNCLE BEN
Nini tena!. Si wewe ndio ulitaka
Nairobi?.
OLUNGA
To Nera... Koni kanye?. mae bende
Nairobi?. Huku pia iko pamoja na
Nairobi.

UNCLE BEN
Hapana Nairobi iko huko kwingine,
ne rasingwa ni. Hii ni Nairobi.
OLUNGA
Nyaka mabat sufuria igedo go.
Reaches for one of the wall’s house and tries to press
inside making a depression nearly falling inside.

Ben cuts Olunga’s words with a fears look.

UNCLE BEN

Uncle Ben opens the door completely and enters follwed by
Olunga. Sits on a plastic chair, directs Olunga to sit on
the Old torn sofa, Olunga sits hesitatingly while looking
around.
UNCLE BEN

kwa nyumba, wakora ni wengi
Nairobi. And ya mwisho, Usiniite
Nera tena, na lugha ni kiswahili.

OLUNGA
Sawa sawa... na Nera...pole, uncle

Uncle Ben wakes up and goes to the door, picks up a padlock
opens the door.

Uncle Ben goes out and locks the door with the padlock from
outside. Olunga starts to call.
OLUNGA
Nera! tena unafunga...Nera!
Nera!...
Goes to the door tries to shake it to open.
Nairobi!.

3. EXT. ON THE RIVERSIDE.DAY.

Benta is scrolling through her phone from a distance away
from Babji and Frank, while Babji and Frank are chatting and
laughing.

Benta looks at them then continues with her texting, her

phone rings, she recives.
BENTA.
...yes madam!.... Nmeona!.

MADAM MILLER(O.C)
Chukua hao watu wako mwende
mkatafute mahali inakaa hivyo.
BENTA.
Sawa madam... Na wanakaa to nkama
wamelala.
Looks at Babji and Frank who are busy laughing at a
distance.

MADAM MILLER(O.C).
Wamelala...?!. Mnalala aje mchana.
BENTA.
Nkama awako sawa...!.

MADAM MILLER(O.C).
...usijali, hao unajua venye
utawasort... natuma kitu hapo ya
logistics pamoja na ya hao watoto

Benta looks at the phone and turns to Babji and Frank.
Oya...Amsheni!, kuna mteja.
FRANK
(excitedly)
Wakes up.

BABJI.
Rises and walks past Benta followed by Frank.
Alafu ulikuwa unataka kuwacha...

Mocking Benta.
Si uwache basi... wacha!... tuone
kama utabuy hio liomizin yako.

Mimicking Benta earlier words.

Benta still rooted to the spot looks at Babji and Frank and
as they puppet past her.
BABJI.

Looks at Benta hehind him.

Yooh!. Twende kabla huyo mteja
achange mind.
Benta signs and follows them.

4. INT. OLUNGA’S UNCLE’S PLACE.NIGHT.

Uncle Ben comes knocks on the door, Olunga, who was sleeping
on the sofa is awaken by the knock. Rises up in panic as
darkness had already started to fill the room, looks around
and then hears the knock again.
Olunga listens carefuly.
OLUNGA
(hesitatingly)
...Ni...ni...ni nani.
The knock goes louder, then stops.
...in ng’a...?.
There is a long silence before some sounds of flucking keys
are heard on the door.
OLUNGA
Nera!...Uncle!.

The doors node openning sounds as Olunga continues to call,

the door is opened and a man enters the house. Olunga tensed
and afraid keeps silence.
Uncle Ben, reaches to the drawers and picks a matchbox after
series of failaur attempts in the dark. Lights up one of the
sticks and sees olunga coiled in the sofa. Olunga is relived
after seing is his unlce.
OLUNGA
...Nera...kumbe ni wewe unanishtua
hivyo!.

UNCLE BEN
Ssssh. Ni usiku hakuna kelele.
Uncle Ben lights up an old kerosene lamp on top of the empty
old, broken mini cabinate. Then sits down on his favorite
plastic chair, starts to remove his shoes.

OLUNGA
...Na watu wa Nairobi mnaishi
aje...unakuja kwako kama mwizi!.

UNCLE BEN
...wacha kelele...ikifika usiku
hakuna mtu anaongea huku... hawafai
kujua kama uko ndani.
OLUNGA
...kina nani?.
Uncle Ben dropps himself mercilesly on the mat and closes
his eyes ready to sleep. Leaving Olunga shocked by the drop
and tries to wake him up.

OLUNGA
...Nera... kwani hivyo ndio
umelala... hatukuli!.
Shakes his Uncle.
Nera!. Nera!.

UNCLE BEN
(Tiresomely)
...Chukua maji hapo kwa ndoo
ukunywe!.

OLUNGA
Maji?.
Olunga looks around to try find something like a backet in
the darks room, with a fading kerosene lamp.

UNCLE BEN
Harakisha ulale kabla hio taa
haijazima.
OLUNGA
...onge bwana!... nera okanyal
nindo gi pi kende iia! amadh pi
debe kwani an liech.
Suddenly the kerosene lamp fades off and turns off bringing
total darkness in the room.

Nera...Nera taa osim. Leta hapo
pesa ya mafuta na chakula.

UNCLE BEN
(sleepy)
Hio taa tangu inunuliwe haijawahi
wekwa mafuta... usijisumbue.
Unavuta kitambi juu inawaka
ikichomeka hadi inazima, kesho tena
unavuta juu. ikiisha unanunua
kitambi pekeyake. Mambo ya mafuta
sijui.
OLUNGA
Aaaai nera hapana... mago tang’o.
UNCLE BEN
Unaongea nyingi kwa giza kwani wewe
ni mchawi...in jaido...Olunga
nidi...

OLUNGA
Nera...!
UNCLE BEN
...Nindi!...

OLUNGA
To nera...
UNCLE BEN
Olunga kikawinji kanyo kiyao dhogi

5. INT. OLUNGA’S UNCLE’S PLACE.DAY.

Early in the morning, Olunga wakes up from the sofa only to

find his uncle is nowhere to be seen, cheacks around and
decides to go out.
Looks outside, the plot is still empty no one around,
decides to sit on the door step. After a while a Sharon,
Neighbours daughter comes out looks at Olunga and goes to
the gate opens and stepts out. She interchages with Uncle
Ben on his way to the plot. Uncle Ben greets Sharon, who
looks at Olunga, and starts conversing as they ocassionaly
points at Olunga, Uncle Ben laughs as Sharon walks away
smily. Uncle Ben comes in to the door carring a shopping bag
goes to where Olunga is.
Looks at Olunga for a while.

Olunga squizes himself on the side and leaving a narrow path
for Uncle Ben to enter.
