BACKGROUND

As we all know that Corona Virus affected the whole world; people, businesses, economies,
academics, politics, healthcare, transport etc. This virus became the cause of many disasters such
as millions of people have died, business shut downs, loss of jobs etc. As far as the education
sector is concerned, there are numerous losses we are facing because of this virus. The
conventional way of teaching and studying has been replaced by online system, which is surely
not that effective as the conventional one. Other than that, the biggest problem we are facing
today is that the futures of our students are at stake.
Apparently, students are enjoying free holidays and online mode of learning and exams. Matric
and Intermediate students are getting promoted without giving exams, but all those students who
are enjoying right now and getting passed and promoted through cheating in online exams, they
really don’t know how they are betraying themselves. They are going ahead without skills and
adequate knowledge. And eventually, this will be a huge loss for the whole country that in the
future, our graduates will have degrees but they won’t have skills. So in future, there will be lack
of qualified teachers as well.
But there’s always another side of every situation. This virus has also become blessing and it
discovered our digitalization, it is saving our time, energy and money in ways which we’ll
explain how..
CONS:
 Two-way communication:
Online learning eliminates the Human to human interaction in which a student and
teachers can provide feedback and can engage in different class activities which is a
major drawback in online classes. In the absence of face to face learning, it is very
difficult for the teachers to clear the concepts of majority of the students, teachers don’t
even know that the student behind the screen is taking class or not. Apart from that,
teachers themselves get bored of teaching without interaction.

IMPROPER EQUIPMENTS:
Unlike SZABIST most of the institutes in Pakistan are lower class or middle class. So without
having proper equipment for online teaching, it is very difficult for the institutions to provide
quality education to the students. And if the institute manages somehow to teach, then the
problem arises from students’ side, so it is really hectic.

TECHNOLOGICAL ISSUES:
Technological issues like, loss of electricity and internet. This is the most common issue that
each and every one, whether the teacher or the student, is facing.

LOSS OF JOBS FOR STAFF AND FACULTY:

Institutes are firing faculty and workers who are useless in online learning mode such as peon,
security guards, CCTV operators, technicians, electrician etc. Many people lost their jobs
because they were no longer in need for the institutions.
CONCLUSION:
Keeping in mind the above stated facts and discussion, it can be fairly concluded that no doubt,
there are many advantages of online classes and COVID 19 affected educational sector not only
negatively, but positively as well. Like, there are advantages of cost saving, energy, time,
expenses, comfort and all that, but we must acknowledge that there are more adverse effects on
education sector and disadvantages of online classes. Online classes, learning, and teaching are
all restricted to limited extent, experiments of MBBS, practical implications of aeronautical
engineering or even simply understanding of mathematics and accounting subjects cannot be
taught online properly. Other than that, if we eliminate the study part in an online class and
teaching, then we are left with nothing. Means, there is no interaction with people, to make
friends, to gain experience, to witness that how all it works out there in the world, to face
hardships, to face setbacks, to celebrate or to mourn happy and sad moments with friends. These
all facts are the essence of enjoyable and memorable life at any educational institution, and
without these activities, education becomes boring and incomplete. In short, online platform is
just an alternative source for students, which can never supplant the practical life of any student,
teacher or any faculty or worker.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
 First of all, educational institutes should provide relief in the form of reduction in fees as
institutes’ expenses are getter lesser because of no or very less usage of electricity, extra
activities or expenses and all that, and it is getting more expensive for students as they are
paying for their own electricity and equipment.
 Secondly, our government is taking this issue lightly and they are not paying attention to
the destruction of education sector. Government should provide subsidy to all the
institutes to make online education more effective, because this will help in building our
assets, as the most important asset of any country is its skilled students and literate
people.
 Thirdly, not taking exams and promoting students without studying and passing exams is
not the solution. There should be proper way of taking exams, following all the SOPs. If
all the marriage halls and wedding ceremonies are permitted in open areas, then why not
taking the exams are in action by the government?
