Assessment 1: Instruments Assessment
1. What is an instrument?
A tool or implement, especially one for precision work
2. Name the four main instruments which are used in the electronics workshop and state
Oscilloscope
Is a laboratory instrument commonly used to display and analyze the waveform of electronic
signals.
Power supply
A power suppy is an electrical device that supplies electric power to an electrical load.
Multmeter
An instrument designed to measure electric current, voltage, and usually resistance, typically
over several ranges of value. Function generator
Is a piece of electronics test instrument used to generate and devil standard waveforms, typically
sine and square waves, to a device under test.

3. Take note of the information below and answer the questions that follow :
• A signal having (Sine wave): T = 20ms
• Vp-p = 2V
• Two full waves to be displayed on the oscilloscope
• The amplitude to take 3 block on the vertical line
• Offset = 0V. Draw the signal on the graph below

obtain all the three operational modes of the power supply and measure the voltage
and currents for each mode. All this should be done to the instructor.
Please note!! Some of the values can’t be obtained on the oscilloscope as per your
calculation, should that case arise kindly use values that are at a close proximity to your
calculated ones.

4. Using the function generator and an oscilloscope, display one full sine wave on the display,
with the amplitude covering 4 blocks.

5. Calculate the Vrms of the signal.

1
Vrms= ×4
√2
= 2,83
6. Using the oscilloscope measure the Vrms and frequency of the wave.
