2 NEW FEATURES AND CHANGES
2.1 Romexis 3D module
 New: Jaw segmementation brush size is modifiable.

 New: Export of upper and lower jaws in position recorded with Jaw Motion.
 Fixed: Tracking connection to ProMax 3D Max in Jaw Motion does not start.
 Change: Improvement in semiautomatic identification of jaw tracking marker spheres.
2.2 PlanCAD Easy
 Fixed: Occasionally Align Buccal tool might show green value even though alignment is not complete.
 Fixed: Bite alignment needs to be done manually when scanning in full arch mode.
 Fixed: Bad alignment of preop and prep scans for lower jaw cases.
 Fixed: Ply file orientation issue when quick launching lower jaw case from PlanCAD Easy to PlanCAD
Premium.

3 INSTALLATION AND UPGRADE
Installation and configuration information is located in Planmeca Romexis Technical Manual, 10037884. The Planmeca Romexis
Technical manual is distributed on the Planmeca Dealer Support website and with the Planmeca Romexis installation media.
3.1 GENERAL INSTALLATION

To run the installation package in Windows, always right-click Planmeca Romexis setup.exe and select option ‘Run as
administrator’ from the context menu.

3.3 PLANMECA PLANCAD EASY INSTALLATION
 When installing and using Planmeca PlanCAD Easy, Windows Display setting (Control Panel – All Control Panel Items –
Display) should be set to ‘Smaller 100%’ (Default)
 The computer’s NVIDIA GPU driver’s version should be 320.00 or newer, excluding version 350.12 which is not a compatible
version. If not, the drivers can be downloaded from www.geforce.com/drivers.
 It is recommended to disable Virus Scanning prior to installation. The Anti-Virus software might recognize the Planmeca
PlanCAD Easy file ‘DesignCenter.exe’ mistakenly for a virus and prevent its installation. Remember to enable Virus
Scanning after Planmeca PlanCAD Easy installation.
NOTE! Color mode requires a color scanning tip and an 8 digit activation code for the scanner. Refer to the color activation
quick guide (10039740) for more information
NOTE! PlanCAD Easy 5.8.1 requires Job Server software v5.8.1.
3.4 DATABASE INSTALLATION

During the installation of Planmeca Romexis, you have the option to install an instance of MS SQL Server 2012 Express on the
server computer. Please read Planmeca Romexis Technical manual 10037884 for more information about the installation pre-
requirements.
MS SQL Server 2012 will be installed automatically on new installations only. No existing MS SQL instances will automatically be
updated to MS SQL 2012.
3.5 JAVA INSTALLATION

For Apple OS X Yosemite and El Capitan Java 8 update 45 is strongly recommended and is included in the installation
package, and is also used by default in a new Planmeca Romexis installation on Apple OS X Yosemite & El Capitan.
NOTE! Apple Java 6 installation is required to be able to install IntraCam component on OS X. Java 6 update 65 installer is
available in directory tools/java on Planmeca Romexis 4.4.3.R installation media.
For a 32bit Windows Java SE 1.6 update 45 is strongly recommended and is included as custom Java distribution in the
installation package and is used by default in a new Planmeca Romexis installation on 32bit Windows. This custom Java
distribution is located under Planmeca\Romexis\tools\JRE_x86.
For a 64bit Windows Java SE 1.8 update 45 is strongly recommended and is included as custom Java distribution in the
installation package and is used by default in a new Planmeca Romexis installation on 64bit Windows. This custom Java
distribution is located under Planmeca\Romexis\tools\JRE_x64
Custom Java distribution reduces dependency on changes in the main operating system Java installation.
3.6 IMPLANT LIBRARY INSTALLATION

In environments using Implant Library 3.7.0.R or earlier, Implant Library 4.4.0.R update is required immediately after updating
Planmeca Romexis to version 4.4.2.R. Please read the Planmeca Romexis Technical manual 10037884 for more information
about the installation of Planmeca Romexis Implant Library.
3.7 RECOMMENDED IMAGE PROCESSING
In Planmeca Romexis 4.4.2.R, default panoramic and cephalometric image processing settings that are applied on new
installation are designed for Planmeca Dimax4 and intraoral settings for Planmeca ProSensor. Some recommended settings may
be different for Planmeca Dimax3, SmartPan, Planmeca ProCeph or Planmeca Dixi. If you are making a new installation on a
Planmeca Dimax3, SmartPan, Planmeca ProCeph or Planmeca Dixi system, please check the following tables for recommended
settings that need to be manually adjusted in Planmeca Romexis Configuration Planmeca, Didapi Configuration applications and
Planmeca Romexis Client.
Please note that the default panoramic and cephalometric image processing settings that are applied on new installation are not
automatically applied when updating from earlier versions of Planmeca Romexis.

3.7.3 RECOMMENDED IMAGE AUTO ENHANCEMENTS IN PLANMECA ROMEXIS
There are 2 alternative ways to specify non-permanent Auto Enhancements for all new 2D images:
1. Normal Preprocessing defined in Planmeca Romexis Configuration application under:
Imaging > [image type] > Auto Enhancements > Use Normal Preprocessing
Allows setting default values for: Gamma, Sharpen, Despecle
2. Custom Preprocessing defined in Planmeca Romexis client 2D imaging module by applying desired enhancements to
an image type using the Image Processing Toolbar, then selecting:
File > Capture > Save Image Enhancements as Default Enhancements
The currently applied settings can be checked in Planmeca Romexis Configuration application under:
Imaging > [image type] > Auto Enhancements > Use Custom Preprocessing
Please note that when Custom Preprocessing is applied in Planmeca Romexis client the Normal Preprocessing is automatically
disabled.
For 8-Bits images, we recommend that both Extent and Strength values are lowered for the Clarify filter.

3.8 PLANMECA ROMEXIS UPDATES
Updating previous versions
 In the Component Selection dialog make sure to select all previously installed components (deselecting an
installed component will result in uninstalling that component).
When upgrading from earlier version of Planmeca Romexis, Planmeca Romexis 4.4.2.R requires a database update. In such case
Planmeca Romexis database option needs to be checked. If you are using Solid database or need to run the database update
manually the script can be found in \Planmeca\Romexis\sql\1.0 folder for Solid and \Planmeca\Romexis\sql.srv\1.0 for Microsoft
SQL Server. Double click the rxupd.bat to execute the update.
Limitations
 Planmeca Romexis 32-Bit installation on a 64-Bit operating system cannot be updated directly to a 64-Bit
version. First an uninstallation is required followed by a fresh 64-Bit installation of Planmeca Romexis.
 Please note that the default panoramic and cephalometric image processing settings that are applied on new
installation are not automatically applied when updating from earlier versions of Planmeca Romexis. Please
refer to section 3.6 RECOMMENDED IMAGE PROCESSING for more information.
3.8.1 Ortho Studio update

Before updating Ortho Studio from Planmeca Romexis 4.1.0.R or older, Ortho Studio serial number needs to be checked. The
serial number is used to update the Ortho Studio dongle after updating the software.
The serial number can be obtained from the About dialog of the Ortho Studio and should be sent to Planmeca Sales
(sales@planmeca.com) to receive a file with which the Ortho Studio dongle can be updated.
After updating Ortho Studio, place the update file that you received from Planmeca Sales into the Ortho Studio folder (C:\Program
Files\Planmeca\Romexis\client\orthostudio) and start the software. The dongle is automatically updated.
If the file is not inside the ortho studio folder the software asks for it at the startup.
NOTE! Serial number of the Ortho Studio cannot be obtained from the About Dialog anymore after the update. If this happens,
contact Planmeca Sales (sales@planmeca.com) for further instructions.

5 KNOWN ISSUES
 ProScanner: If Windows firewall blocks port 8383 (UDP and TCP) or SDK doesn’t run as
administrator, connection to ProScanner sometimes fails and a reboot of ProScanner is needed
to establish connection.
 Cross sections are black and panoramic curve lost if user exports a volume with removed
segmented teeth as new to database, opens it and then opens an old volume again during the
same session
 Planmeca Romexis Implant Library 4.1.0.R scripts for Solid database will not add Implants to be
visible on Planmeca Romexis. Contact Planmeca After Sales for instructions if having
mentioned setup.
 Terratec G1 s-video to USB adapter does not work correctly with INTEL USB 3.0 drivers.
 Planmeca Clinic Management: Instrument settings are not shown correctly in Planmeca
Romexis Compact i Touch GUI. Do not adjust instrument settings or select instrument presets
from Planmeca Romexis Compact i Touch GUI. Some actions are transferred to dental unit, but
changed instrument settings are not shown in Planmeca Romexis Compact i Touch GUI.
 Service mode 211 can be used to disable keypad usage from Planmeca Romexis Compact i
Touch GUI.
 Starting from Planmeca Romexis 3.6.0.R, Dell Reconstruction PC model v.2 units may
experience slow image reconstruction. See document ‘SW-146 Planmeca Reconstruction PC
HP Z800 and Dell T3600 Quality Issue Notification’ for field service instructions.
 Windows and tabs in Planmeca PlanCAD Easy are not shown properly, if ‘Auto-hide the
taskbar’ option is in use in Taskbar and Start Menu Properties of Windows OS.
 MS SQL Server 2012 installation may issue the following error if the installation is attempted
from another media than the original DVD:
Error message:
Rule "Long path names to files on SQL Server installation media" failed. SQL Server installation
media on a network share or in a custom folder can cause installation failure if the total length
of the path exceeds 260 characters. To correct this issue, utilize Net Use functionality or
shorten the path name to the SQL Server setup.exe file.
 Windows 8.1 and 10 Apteryx / Julie integrations are not supported.
 For Planmeca DIDAPI UI to work on Windows 8.1 you need to make UAC change on the
Windows folder.
 It may be necessary to retry 3D Sensor SW upgrade a few times when upgrading 3D Sensor
SW from 3.0.0.R to a newer version.
 Planmeca ProMax 3D Max ProFace: No frames shown during CBVT when "Show live frame
Preview" disabled.
 Segmented Planmeca Proline panoramic images may exhibit white edges.
 Planmeca Romexis Viewer CD that is burned with Nero out of an exported ISO-image from
Planmeca Romexis might not start on Apple OS X. In such case burn ISO-image to CD using
some other burning software.
 Planmeca Romexis Viewer does not support opening 12bit jpeg images on Apple OS X.
 Image adjustments are not exported when exporting 3D volume as a single frame stack of
DICOM files.
 Planmeca Romexis Viewer does not support opening .gif or .raw images.
 When using Planmeca Romexis on a 32-bit Windows with 2GB of memory Planmeca Romexis
–Xmx setting must not exceed 1200m.
 When updating Planmeca Romexis version 2.7 or older on a 64-bit OS, JVM path might be
updated wrongly in RomexisService.ini file in the server folder. As a result, Planmeca Romexis
Service does not start. To fix the issue, change JVM path to ..\tools\jre_x64\bin\server\jvm.dll.
 SmartPan recovery will produce darker images than originals.
 Dual capture from two workstations to one Planmeca ProMax at the same time is not
supported.
 After sensor replacement on Planmeca ProOne, replacement sensor requires calibration with
Dimax4tool before beam check and flat field calibration with Device tool are possible.
SOFTWARE DELIVERY
Planmeca Romexis 4.4.3.R is delivered with MS SQL Server 2012 Express. However, Planmeca Romexis 4.4.3.R
is also compatible with Solid FE 4.1, Oracle and Firebird.
