What I Need to Know
This module is for the Junior High School Technical Livelihood Education (TLE) track
major in Beauty Care/Nail Care Services. This module includes the development of
the learner’s knowledge, skills, and attitude needed in performing hand spa
treatment.
This serves as a tool for learners and teachers in gauging the transfer of knowledge,
skills, and attitude. The learners can only proceed to the next part once he/she
accomplishes the prior tasks provided. The activities in this module are thoroughly
thought out to be more engaging. Most importantly, it is income-generating!

Before, manicure and pedicure were considered as a luxury that only the wealthy
people deserve their nails to be well treated. But today, manicure and pedicure are
considered necessary because they are essential parts of good grooming.
Your hands and feet are the busiest parts of your body, they never take a day off, so
take care of them. Good manicures and pedicures enhance fingernails and toenails.
It is believed that you are not completely dressed without having them groomed.
This module will teach you the Procedure of Basic Manicure and Pedicure Services
as well as the Equipment, Implements, Cosmetics, and Materials Used in
Manicure/Pedicure.

What Is It
If you found out that there are signs of infection such as swelling, redness, and
presence of pus when you examine the fingernails and toenails, do not perform
nail services, but instead refer that person to a physician.

1. Greet your client with a smile, introduce yourself if you have not met, and
shake hands. Ask for the consultation card he or she filled out in the reception
area, especially if the client is new.
2. Escort your client to the handwashing area and show them the proper way.
Once you have done the demonstration, hand your client a clean brush and
let her wash her hand.
3. Show your client to your worktable and ensure the client's safety and comfort
before and during the entire process.

procedure for the service.

Types of Manicure
There are different types of manicures applicable for men and women. As a
manicurist, you can also offer or suggest the types of manicures to your client.

▪ Equipment and Implements – are articles in manicuring that are durable.
▪ Cosmetics and Materials – are supplies that are consumed and must be
replaced.
▪ Implements – are also known as Tools.

Electric heater It is used for heating oil when giving a
hot oil manicure.
Cuticle pusher
It is used to push back or loosen the
cuticle.

It has two grits on one side and

A liquid product is applied directly to
the nails to protect these against

The following are the proper way of holding and handling some nail care implements.
Orangewood Stick
It is held in the same manner as in writing with a pencil. To loosen
the cuticle, work around the nail; for applying oil or solvent,
slightly dip the cotton-tipped orangewood stick and work around
the base of the nail; to clean under the free edge of the nail, from
the center toward each side, with gentle pressure so that live
tissue at the root of the nail will not be injured.
Cuticle Nipper
Pick up the cuticle nipper by the handles and turn the cutting
edges towards you; place the bent tip of the index finger over the
top of the shank. Place the thumb on the side of the handle and
the remaining fingers over the opposite handle. Use it with utmost
care to remove dead cuticles and hangnails so as not to injure live
tissue.
Nail Cutter
Nail Brush
Insert the ring finger and pinky in the nail brush handle and
brush the nails with a downward motion from the base to the
fingertips to clean the nails and fingers.
Nail Buffer
Place the thumb and the ring finger under the handle of the buffer
while the index and the middle fingers are on its top and the pinky
is on its side. Apply a small amount of powder over the buffer then
buff the nails with downward strokes from the base to the free
edge of each nail until a smooth clear gloss has been obtained. To
prevent heating and burning sensation, lift the buffer from the
nail after each stroke.
